The Flickr Slåss Image Generatr

Two male common goldeneyes (Bucephala clangula), that had a little fight during sunset three weeks ago. They came even closer as we gave bread to the mallards and swans.

They are, like the common eider I posted yesterday, easier to get close near the towns of Jæren, than on our island where they are not that used to people.

January ends in the same beautiful way as it started. In between the nice weather, cold and snow, we have had lots of rain and storms as well. But today we just have to enjoy the lovely last day.

This is from my birthday earlier this month. While talking on the phone, I saw that a sparrowhawk (Accipiter nisus) chased a crow and a magpie outside our house. It was hard to get good photos since I was on the phone, but it's a fun story.

Hippopotamuses in the Mara River, not that far from our camp last year. It's amazing to live that close to nature for a week, and I'm so excited to go back!

During February I spent four days in different hides, photographing golden eagles (Aquila chrysaetos).

I got many nice photos of single eagles and other birds around them, but I also hoped that the other eagles would come to fight. That only happened this one time, in the last hide I visited.

It was a pity that they hid like this, but maybe I'll get better ones next season.

Eurasian jays (Garrulus glandarius), photographed from the same hide as the sparrowhawk I uploaded this morning.

It was so fun to watch them fighting both with each other, and with the sparrowhawks for several days this past autumn.

A late upload today, since I've been busy holding a bird presentation at the community house.

Here's one of the series I showed there, of two young white-tailed eagle siblings (Haliaeetus albicilla), that were ringed on our island.

One of them sat on the ice, eating some meat when suddenly the other came for a fight. They took off and continued in the air, before two more eagles arrived as well.

We photographed them from our car, and luckily we stopped this time, since we've seen eagles there without stopping as well.

On our first evening in the hides in Finland, exactly two months ago today, we witnessed the only bear fight while we were there.

As the second bear approached the one that was eating, I was the only one in our hide who guessed that there would be a fight. Luckily I was right, and the sight and sounds were unforgettable ツ
