Deteriorating since 1892: A set of quadruple columns at the pier of an arch at a public library in Connecticut.

The pits in the sandstone at the bottoms of the columns have begun to rival stonecarvings in their intricacy.

What accounts for the unsightly gray blob-shaped areas. I'd hate for this building to be declared an urban blight and demolished!

In downtown New London, Connecticut, on September 21st, 2021, at the Public Library of New London, begun in 1889 and completed in either 1891 or 1892, designed by Shepley, Rutan and Coolidge, 70000712 on the National Register of Historic Places, also a "contributing property" in the Downtown New London Historic District, 79002665 and 88000070 on the National Register of Historic Places, at the southeast corner of Huntington Street and State Street.
