More monk-y business! This time in Kamakura, the "little Kyoto" near Tokyo.

Kenninji is the birthplace of Zen in Japan in the sense that it's there that Zen landed when it arrived from China.
I've tried to take a half decent pic of this garden for years, and last autumn was the first time I was blessed with nice light. Hopefully I didn't completely mess up! ;-)

A blast from the past from 2011: the typical sukiya architecture of Ruriko-in temple in Kyoto. At the time tourism in Kyoto was only starting to boom and it was possible to visit Ruriko-in and relax. Today it's a different story... Still beautiful and worth a peek though :-)

This place has changed a lot in 15 years! A typhoon or two knocked down many trees making the atmosphere a lot more airy but also a lot less mysterious. There's even an overlook for great views of the valley and hills around the temple. Worth checking out if you haven't been there for a while...

Called "October cherry blossoms" in Japanese (十月桜), they bloom between October and December, a good 4-5 months before their more popular April counterparts. Although not as furnished as their spring cousins they nonetheless bring an unexpected touch of colour in autumn pictures... And of course this was shot in a shrine so a big-ass lantern was de rigueur (笑)

An interesting wall tucked in a corner of the large Manpuku-ji temple grounds. Temple walls and other elements of traditional Japanese architectural can sometimes include recycled materials from previous constructions in their design, typically roof tiles or carved stones.

A little unusual composition for this temple gate located in the Ohara valley north of Kyoto.
Side note: I've recently increased the size of my pictures but Flickr keeps resizing them down. Boo...

Amazingly, no saturation slider was hurt when processing this picture. The key in the stairs remaining mossy is of course that they are not used: there is a parallel secondary set of stairs to reach the upper section of the temple. The stairs have a name BTW: "kokedan" (苔段) Yeah a bit obvious but hey! ( ^-^)v
