JetBlue Goes Bold...

It is interesting just how far the New York-based, JetBlue has come along... The carrier was founded in 1998 with services commencing in 2000 with a fleet of Airbus A320s. The company has expanded rapidly with 6 operating bases, the largest being New York-JFK. The carrier expanded into the premium transcontinental market in 2014 with its 'Mint' Business Class product, with the first long-haul international flights commencing in 2021.
For the best part of over a decade since the carrier was founded, the airline primarily provided low fares on flights to and from New York-JFK, but got into competing on the premium transcontinental market from New York to either Los Angeles or San Francisco which has been dominated by American Airlines, Delta Air Lines and United Airlines.
In June 2023, JetBlue unveiled their newest livery, the Eurowhite with blue underbelly and different pattern tailwind is pretty much done away in favour of an all-over blue colour scheme with much more bolder tailfin designs extended beyond the vertical stabiliser to the rear fuselage. The new livery is very bold and striking... So far, just one Airbus A321 carries the new livery.
Currently, JetBlue operates 219 Airbus A320 family aircraft, which includes 130 Airbus A320s, 63 Airbus A321s, 19 Airbus A321neos and 7 Airbus A321LRs. JetBlue have 34 Airbus A321neos, 7 Airbus A321LRs and 13 Airbus A321XLRs on-order.

Out of the big 3 US-carriers operating in Los Angeles, Delta Air Lines is the largest with a 20% market share; the carrier using the area as a secondary gateway to the Pacific region as well as operating numerous flights to Central and South America, Asia, Australia and Europe.
Delta Air Lines history with the Airbus A320 family began in 2008 following the merger with Northwest Airlines in the same year; prior to the merger, Delta Air Lines operated a large Boeing 737 and McDonnell Douglas MD-80/90 fleet, however as the merger was confirmed and completed, Delta Air Lines gained 57 Airbus A319s and 69 Airbus A320s from Northwest Airlines, as well as regaining a fleet of McDonnell Douglas DC-9s.
The merger saw Delta Air Lines becoming one of the largest airlines in the world, and saw the carrier inheriting a large Airbus fleet from the Airbus A319 to the larger Airbus A330. The relationship between Delta Air Lines and Airbus would be cemented when the carrier announced an order for 30 Airbus A321s in 2013, the first time the carrier has order narrow-body jets from the European plane-maker. The order also saw Delta Air Lines agreeing to order 11 Airbus A330-300s alongside their existing fleet.
The order for Airbus A321s gradually increased prior to first deliveries taking place in early-2016, with deliveries ending in late-2021 with Delta Air Lines being the last carrier to take delivery of of the previous-generation Airbus A320 family aircraft, ending 33 years of production for what has become the fastest-selling commercial airliner of all time.
Currently, Delta Air Lines operates 276 Airbus A320 family aircraft, which includes 57 Airbus A319s, 61 Airbus A320s, 127 Airbus A321s and 31 Airbus A321neos. Delta Air Lines have 124 Airbus A321neos on-order.

With the introduction of their Airbus A321 fleet in late-2013 which saw JetBlue introducing a brand new tailfin design known as Prism, which is gradually being phased out with either Balloons or Ribbons. When their Mint Business Class product was revealed in 2014, this saw competition increasing along the transcontinental corridor.
Today, Los Angeles sees 19 daily flights from New York-John F. Kennedy every single day... Whilst the previous generation Airbus A321s maintain the lion-share of flights, the newer Airbus A321neos also appear despite just 2 examples featuring Mint interiors.
Currently, JetBlue operates 218 Airbus A320 family aircraft, which includes 130 Airbus A320s, 63 Airbus A321s, 18 Airbus A321neos and 7 Airbus A321LRs. JetBlue have 35 Airbus A321neos, 7 Airbus A321LRs and 13 Airbus A321XLRs on-order.

Swiss Going NEO...

It should come as no surprise as Airbus continues to wind down production of their Airbus A320ceos, the number of airlines taking delivery of their first Airbus A320neo is ever increasing... In this case, the most recent carrier to take delivery of their first Airbus A320neo is Swiss International Air Lines, which will enter commercial service from March 2020.
For Swiss, the carrier operates an ageing Airbus A320 family fleet, their Airbus A319 fleet has shrunk to just 2 with the rest to be withdrawn as more Airbus A320neos are delivered, whilst their eldest Airbus A320ceos are in the process of being scrapped. The existing Airbus A321 fleet will however remain with Swiss.
With the first Airbus A320neo delivered, it will be passed into service from 15th March 2020 operating from its Zürich hub to Brussels, Hamburg and Valencia operating between 7-12 weekly flights. From 22nd March 2020, it will be phased into service on the 22nd March 2020 operating to London Heathrow for one day only before going daily from 29th March 2020 on LX338/339.
For the most part, Airbus A220s and Airbus A320s operate multiple flights into London Heathrow from either Geneva or Zürich... During the winter, Airbus A321s will often operate during the ski season where demand often increases.
Currently, Swiss International Air Lines operates 31 Airbus A320 family aircraft, 2 Airbus A319s, 19 Airbus A320ceos, one Airbus A320neo, 6 Airbus A321-100s and 3 Airbus A321-200s. Swiss have 16 Airbus A320neos and 8 Airbus A321neos on-order.

Every single summer, the charter carriers like TUI and Thomas Cook ramp up their operations... Notably, Thomas Cook often wet-lease aircraft to cover their schedule, but the airline also acquired 4 Airbus A321s that were previously operated by Monarch before going bust.
Following Monarch's closure, all of their aircraft were leased and returned back to their lessors, now having found new homes.
During the S18 schedule, Thomas Cook brought in 4 Airbus A321s on wet-lease to cover the peak season.
The airline also took on 4 Airbus A321s from Monarch which still retain their colour scheme with Thomas Cook logos plastered on the fuselage and Sunny Heart on the tail. The aircraft differ in featuring IAE V2500 engines compared to CFM56 engines on their new airframes.
Currently, Thomas Cook operates 33 Airbus A320 family aircraft, which includes 3 Airbus A320s on wet-lease and 30 Airbus A321s of which 4 are on wet-lease from Avion Express whilst 8 are on wet-lease to Air Transat during the W18 schedule. Thomas Cook are due to acquire one Airbus A321 from Condor.

Köyceğiz Short Finals...

Turkish Airlines continues to gain a massive presence in the United Kingdom, offering more flights and destinations of any airline in the world. Whilst their route portfolio took a hit in 2016 following the attempted coup d'état in Turkey, the airline has certainly rebounded once again...
For the past two years, Turkish Airlines have offered twice daily Airbus A321 flights between Istanbul and Manchester, although Airbus A330s have appeared during the peak summer season where demand generally increases.
With Turkish Airlines having taken delivery of all current generation narrow-body jets, the airline's next major focus is the delivery of the next-generation narrow-bodies with deliveries of Boeing 737 MAX 8/9s and Airbus A321neos. Deliveries are expected to take place by the end of the year for both the Boeing 737 MAX 8 and Airbus A321neo.
Currently, Turkish Airlines operates a large Airbus A320 family with 97 in service, which includes 7 Airbus A319s, 22 Airbus A320s and 68 Airbus A321s. Turkish Airlines have 92 Airbus A321neos on-order.

Vueling From Orly...

Spanish low-cost carrier, Vueling is continuing to grow despite the retrenching of certain operating bases. The airline continues to increase capacity with the recent introduction of large aircraft, as well as growing from their major bases at Barcelona and in Rome.
In the UK, they are less prevalent due to major competition from EasyJet, Jet2, Monarch and Ryanair operating in an increasingly competitive environment. Comparing them to Vueling, they are less established in the UK with only a small number of routes operating to select destinations.
In 2015, Vueling began introducing Airbus A321's into its fleet, and a growing trend for low-cost airlines introducing the large model into their fleet. Vueling only operates 15 Airbus A321's and are commonly found at their busiest bases at Barcelona, Paris-Orly and Rome-Fiumicino.
As well as the Airbus A321's, their parent company, IAG have more recently announced which engines will powering their soon to be delivered Airbus A320neo fleet... Airbus A320neo's delivered to Aer Lingus, British Airways and Iberia will be powered by CFM International LEAP-1A engines, whilst Vueling will be the only carrier to be fitted with Pratt & Whitney PW1100G engines.
Currently, Vueling operates 107 Airbus A320 family aircraft, which includes 5 Airbus A319's, 87 Airbus A320's and 15 Airbus A321's. Vueling have 47 Airbus A320neo's on-order.

Polatlı Powers Out...

For the past 2 years, Turkish Airlines have been pretty consistent in what aircraft are allocated to its twice daily flights between Manchester and Istanbul-Atatürk... During its height, the S15 schedule churned out Airbus A330-200's during the busier periods with the Airbus A321-200's filling in where demand is lower.
Whilst the S16 has seen Airbus A330-200's operating one of 2 daily flights, its the S17 schedule that has consistently churned out Airbus A321-200's on the twice daily flights, with the odd Airbus A330 thrown in to provide additional uplift during the peak summer season towards the end of July and beginning of September.
It is certainly surprising just how impressive the Airbus A321 looks with Sharklets, whilst in the looks department it looked very much standard, the Sharklets give a much needed improvement to an aircraft family that is synonymous around the world.
Currently, Turkish Airlines operates 99 Airbus A320 family aircraft, which include 7 Airbus A319's, 24 Airbus A320's and 68 Airbus A321-200's. Turkish Airlines have 92 Airbus A321neo's on-order.

Monarch From Airbus To Boeing...

Monarch Airlines has had a turbulent 2016, so much so that media reports began surfacing that the airline was due to declare imminent bankruptcy towards the end of the Summer 2016 schedule, in September 2016. The near bankruptcy got to a point that other airlines began chartering aircraft to destinations served by Monarch in case the airline folded. By October 2016, Greybull Capital (the airline owner) injected £165 million worth of funding and the company also retained its UK Civil Aviation Authority ATOL license, the license is used as financial protection for customers and passengers in case of a holiday provider goes into administration or bankruptcy.
At the Farnborough 2014 International Air Show, Monarch Airlines placed an order for 30 Boeing 737 MAX 8's, the fleet will be used to replace the entire Airbus A320/A321 fleet, all of which are currently on leases. The order was confirmed in October 2016 just after Monarch Airlines got a major cash injection from Greybull Capital... The company would take delivery of 30 Boeing 737 MAX 8's with 15 options if the airline decides to take them up; the first airframes are expected for delivery in the 2nd Quarter of 2018.
In preparation of their first Boeing 737 MAX 8's arrival, the airline will take delivery of a leased Boeing 737-800 (G-ZBAV) from June 2017, the airframe will be primarily based at Birmingham and will operate select flights from the base to 11 destinations during the Summer 2017 schedule, and 8 destinations during the Winter 2017 schedule. The use of a leased Boeing 737-800's will also enable pilots to be trained on the Boeing 737 prior to Monarch taking delivery of their own examples in 2018.
So, get the Airbus A320's and Airbus A321's with Monarch while you can... Once all the Boeing 737 MAX 8's have entered service, all of the Airbus A320/A321 fleet will be withdrawn and return to their leasing companies.
Currently, Monarch operates a 100% Airbus A320 family with 34 in service, which includes 9 Airbus A320's and 25 Airbus A321's.

WOW Stands Out...

Iceland has recently become a very popular destination, not only for tourism thanks to its volcanic environment but has also been a major gateway for connecting flights flying across the Atlantic; something that flag-carrier, Icelandair and low-cost carrier, WOW Air are capitalising on...
WOW Air is one of the newest airlines currently operating from Iceland, directly competing against Icelandair... Whilst the flag-carrier utilises a 100% Boeing fleet, the low-cost carrier utilises a 100% Airbus fleet. Something they both have in common is their slowly growing wide-body fleet.
WOW Air operates twice daily flights between London Gatwick and Reykjavik-Keflavík (WW810/811 & WW814/815) compared to Icelandair's single daily flight. WOW Air uses a mixture of Airbus A320/A321's, as well as Airbus A330-300's during busier periods of the year.
The airline has possibly one of the most striking livery... All-over pink with white decals. Another notable mention is that all their aircraft feature distinguishing registrations; either relating to types of family members, sexual orientation and happy emotions.
Currently, WOW Air operates 11 Airbus A320 family aircraft, which includes 2 Airbus A320ceo's, one Airbus A320neo and 8 Airbus A321ceo's. The airline currently have 6 Airbus A321ceo's and 2 Airbus A321neo's on-order.
Golf Papa Alpha is one of 8 Airbus A321ceo's currently in service with WOW Air, initially should have been delivered new to LATAM Airlines Chile but never taken up. WOW Air took delivery of the airframe on lease from ALC in August 2016 and she is powered by 2 CFM International CFM56-5B3/3 engines.

Small Turkish Tulip...

Turkish Airlines operates one of the most frequent flights between London Heathrow and Istanbul, currently operating 37 weekly flights (of which 5 are daily with one flight operating 2 times a week).
The airline operates a vast array of aircraft between London Heathrow and Istanbul, with the smallest routinely being Airbus A321's (mainly those fitted with Sharklets), whilst Airbus A330-300's and Boeing 777-300ER's often appear as wide-bodies on selected flights. Most of the time, Turkish Airlines increase capacity during the summer with aircraft up-gauges.
2017 should hopefully be a better year for Turkish Airlines, the airline suffered considerably in 2016 as demand dropped over the attempted coup in Turkey, as well as the airline being temporarily banned from flying into the United States. The drop in demand has forced Turkish Airlines to place a number of airframes into storage, from Airbus A319/A320's as well as Airbus A330-200's.
Turkish Airlines operates a large Airbus A320 family fleet with 97 in service, which includes 6 Airbus A319's, 23 Airbus A320's and 68 Airbus A321's... The total fleet number does not include the one Airbus A319 and 6 Airbus A320's currently placed into storage. Turkish Airlines currently have on-order 92 Airbus A321neo's, however last year it was revealed that Turkish Airlines will defer deliveries of up-to 39 narrow-bodies from the Airbus A321neo and Boeing 737 MAX 8/9 order.

Sunny Heart Sharklets...

Charter carriers like Thomas Cook have a history of operating the largest narrow-body jets as being the best way of shuttling seats from the UK to sunny destinations in Europe, Africa and Asia.
A year ago saw Thomas Cook withdraw its entire Boeing 757-200 fleet, a mainstay for the company were ousted in favour of much newer Airbus A321's. The Boeing 757-200 were withdrawn owing to their higher running and maintenance costs. Thomas Cook however still retains 2 Boeing 757-300's primarily based at London Gatwick, with 3 more examples due to delivered shortly from its German subsidiary, Condor.
For years, Thomas Cook has been a regular operator of Airbus A321's since 2007, with 4 examples coming under the airline's operations following its merger with MyTravel. Used examples were acquired in 2009, 2014 and 2015 respectively... Interesting to note that 5 examples transferred from other Thomas Cook subsidiaries, notably Condor and Thomas Cook Scandinavia.
Between 2013 and 2016, Thomas Cook took delivery of 12 brand new Airbus A321's, these having gained the airline's latest Sunny Heart yellow and grey livery, and were fitted with Sharklets, now standard on the majority of Airbus A320 family fleet, except the Airbus A318.
Thomas Cook currently have 21 Airbus A321's in service with no more order.

Finnish Approach...

Heathrow is no surprise a major visitor for Finnair's Airbus A321 fleet, being a member of Oneworld and code-sharing with British Airways on a large majority of routes, it is no surprise the airline their largest narrow-bodies appear...
Once the airline takes delivery of their first Airbus A350-900, they will be utilising the wide-body jet on a number of European short-haul flights, Heathrow is unsurprisingly included with Finnair to start sending them on 15th October 2015, the airline is expected to take delivery of their first example at the beginning of October... No pressure!
Currently, Finnair operate 11 Airbus A321's alongside 9 Airbus A319's and 10 Airbus A320's. Of the 11 Airbus A321's Finnair have in their fleet, 5 are fitted with Sharklets, the company being the launch customer of the A321 fitted with the fuel-saving winglets.

Finnish Sharklets...

One of the first airline's to receive the Airbus A321 with Sharklets goes to Finland's flag-carrier, Finnair who out of 11 Airbus A321's currentlyin service have 5 which feature Sharklets. Unsurprisingly, all of Finnair's Airbus A321's are leased.
Finnair plays a major role at Heathrow, given it is part of Oneworld airline alliance it works closely with British Airways by providing codeshare agreements, between Heathrow and Hesinki, Finnair provides the majority but are part of British Airways codeshare agreements.
Finnair's short-haul fleet largely consists of the Airbus A320 family, 9 of which on the small Airbus A319, 10 on the standard Airbus A320 and 11 on the longer Airbus A321. Whilst the large portion of their A320 family feature CFM engines, only 6 Airbus A321's which also conveniently have Sharklets feature International AeroEngines.
Zulu Kilo is one of 11 Airbus A321's currently with Finnair, and also one of 5 to feature Sharklets. She was delivered new to Finnair in February 2014, leased from Mitsubishi UFJ Lease & Finance and is powered by 2 IAE V2533-A5 engines.

Turkish Sharklets

Its always a nice sight to see any of the Airbus A320 family with Sharklets, considering they greatly enhance the looks of the airplane family but they can be still few and far between as the large portion still retain their smaller wing-tip fence.
Turkish Airlines has grown to admire the largest of the family, the Airbus A321, these being keenly used on medium density short-haul routes. The airline currently have 43 in service (9 of which feature Sharklets) with 27 on-order. Turkish also have 72 Airbus A321neo's on-order with 22 options. The order of the A321neo's largely are primarily to replace older A321's but also for major expansion of Turkish Airlines which continues to grow as a competing airline to the ME3.
Sierra Lima is one of the 43 Airbus A321's in service with Turkish Airlines, delivered new in June 2013, seeing Sharklets retrofitted in December 2013 and she is powered by 2 IAE V2533-A5 engines. She is named after the Turkish town in the Province of Konya, 'Kulu'.
