A tornado reportedly hit Glen Arbor with 93mph winds ... we were at Esch Road/Aral Beach when it hit, blowing pretty hard ... all roads out were blocked by downed trees, but with combined efforts, we were able to bushwhack our way out only to find that most of the roads home were also blocked by downed trees ...
As bad as this was, it was 'nothing' in comparison to catastrophes around the globe ... we were blessed and I count these blessings everyday living here!
This was also 'leg #49' of the LEELANAU TREK that we decided not to do when we saw the size of the weather cell coming at us on the radar ... I'm not afraid of weather, but where we were hiking, there would be no easy egress(up a 400' dune bluff!) if we needed to get out quickly due to the storm ... so we watched from the sidelines ... !
This image of the shelf cloud that came ashore, is included in the book:

I was really hoping for this to develop into a weather machine, but it fizzled out as it came ashore ... still awesome to see and always interesting to experience the wind shear that comes with it as it passes over!

and then there is this part of the lake story that unbelievably continues to get ignored ... this was the harvest over a 2 mile stretch along Sleeping Bear Bay(without looking very hard and just picking up balloon strings + a couple of balloons and a piece of rope tangled in a batch)
yes, helium balloons are really pretty when they are released into the sky looking like the icon for freedom ... but, then they come down!
on the other hand, I cannot believe that in all of these 45 shoreline treks so far, we have found _no_ luminary residuals ... where do the wire and plastic parts go?
I guess they are 'only' a fire hazard and not the beach trash I assumed they would become :\
