37099 at Yarmouth where it was pulling a radio survey coach and OLE inspection coach from Cambridge to Cambridge with 37607.
On 14th. December 1962 the locomotive was released from the English Electric Vulcan Foundry at Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside with the works number EE/VF3228/D753. As D6799 it was first allocated to Darnall depot at Sheffield.
In March 1974 it was renumbered to 37099, being renumbered again on 27th. July 1986 to 37324 and in 1987 it received the name ‘Clydebridge’.
On 19th. September 1989, 37324 visited Doncaster works for attention, and there it was renumbered again back to 37099.
37099 was derailed with 37037 running between Margam and Mossend on 25th. May 1992.
On 16th. January 1996 the locomotive was taken out of service and on 18th. March 1996 it was stored as unserviceable and destined to be scrapped.
37099 was initially sold for scrap to MRJ Phillips in 1997, however it was swapped with recently preserved No. 37373 when it was found that 37099 was in far better condition
On 30th. May 1997 it was purchased by the Mid Norfolk Railway who transferred it to the North Norfolk Railway in January 1998.
On 18th. April 1999 it arrived at Toddington with the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway. After 3 years of restoration 37099 made its first passenger run in preservation with 37215 between Toddington and Gotherington on 26th. March 2000.
On 5th. May 2006 the locomotive arrived at the Swanage Railway, returning to Toddington on 2nd. July 2006.
On 27th. March 2013 it was removed from the Gloucestershire-Warwickshire Railway to the East Lancashire Railway by road.
On 13th. May 2014 the locomotive was reinstated to traffic as a privately owner diesel locomotive.
37099 was transferred to Colas Rail as a stored locomotive on 15th. March 2016 and was then allocated to Colas Railfreight on 20th. October 2016.
On 4th. November 2019 37099 went to Cardiff for repainting into Colas livery and on 2nd. December 2016 it was named 'Merl Evans 1947 - 2016' at Derby.
