Just hauled out some dead ferns that have been hanging in my office all winter. They weren't dead when I brought them in last autumn. They were actually still viable at the time. However it's been a slow death since then. No amount of nurturing seemed to sustain them over the winter season. The inside air is parched dry from the furnace, and the omnipresent darkness of winter surely doesn't help. The odd part is how this ritual repeats itself every year despite the certainty of failure. I'm under no illusion that I will succeed in keeping the plants alive, but still I try. There's always that sense of initial optimism when the room is filled with lush green leaves. In my mind's eye, they will be giving off an endless supply of precious oxygen while absorbing carbon dioxide. But the reality is they begin dying the very first week. It just takes a while to notice.
When I brought them outside last week, they were a depressing vestige of their former selves. The contrast was especially acute amid the brilliant greens of early May. It was much the same feeling as I explored this abandoned house. It jutted up from the ground like an off-sized toadstool, drab and colorless against a vibrant springtime landscape.
Latex Varoom is an inorganic, metallic Pokémon, said to be created when an unknown Poison-type Pokémon enters and possesses an unused engine at a scrap-processing latex factory. Here in the image they are having a race.

Spent the better part of an hour yesterday in a local garden (getting a bit older has made me ever more receptive to life's simple pleasures). A massive planting of tulip bulbs last autumn has resulted in a virtual eruption of colorful blossoms. I entered the garden with a sense of excitement. Not simply for the sake of the blossoms, but equally for the way they made me feel. For me it's all about being in the moment. And right now, this is the absolute peak of the garden in the middle of spring. This time of year is so fleeting, and I always feel a heavy twinge of nostalgia once it passes. I'll return to this garden as it transitions into summer, however it will never feel quite the way it does right now. Thoughts like this continually guide my photography as an expression of feeling as much as a documentary of the visual.
Here I was struck with the sensation that the background colors play heavily into the feel of the image even when the actual flowers are not fully defined. Shooting at eye level really helps build in layers of color while excluding distractive elements. It's the abstraction of color and shape that complement the single blossom that is in focus. Letting the shadows go dark gives the blooms an inner glow.
A young boy shows his fascination for the old helicopter fading away from its military service in the German Naval Aviation during a family farewell party at Nordholz Naval Air Base.
89+58 in the Farewell paint scheme was displayed together with 89+63 in 50th anniversary panit scheme.
Shortly after this photo a firework took place to celebrate the last day in service.
Maybe this young boy is gong to become a member of the next generation of naval flight officers...
