Mankind or the evolution of humans and their supremacy in the present day Earth does make you woder what is it that separates us from the rest of the living world.
The capability to think and analyse and plan is the difference.
In an ode to that process Rodin;s sculture of a man ostensibly using his thought process is a perfect fit.
The "Thinking Pose" has certainly evolved over the years, and it's fascinating to trace its journey from Rodin's iconic sculpture. Originally brought to life by Auguste Rodin in the late 19th century, this piece captured a moment of deep contemplation, embodying the essence of human thought and introspection. Rodin's work was groundbreaking for its time, showcasing not just physical form but the emotional weight behind it.
Fast forward to today, and we see countless interpretations of that classic pose across various mediums. Artists have reimagined it in everything from modern sculptures to digital art, each adding their unique twist while still paying homage to Rodin’s original vision. The thinking pose has become a universal symbol of reflection—whether it is a statue in a park or an emoji on your phone.
As we look at these adaptations over the years, it is clear that while styles may change and techniques may evolve, the core idea remains: capturing that fleeting moment of thoughtfulness resonates with us all. It reminds us that no matter how much time passes or how art evolves, some concepts are timeless—and the act of pondering is one of them.
This sculpture of a man seated in a stationery cuboid with his hand holding his chin and face is evocative of the above and was shot in Goa at the Kala Akademy showcasing the work of National Award winners and contestants for the year 2008 2009.

Metal sculpture of a man and a woman with not so distinct props to tell the story.
I am unable to at this juncture to give appropriate credit to the sculptor as I do not have his/her name.
The work reminds me of that of Scott Streadbeck from his 2011-12 period with similar glowing copper bronze tonality
