RAGBRAI is the largest, oldest and biggest recreational bicycle ride in the country. I rode 469 miles across Iowa, ending at the Mississippi River. Almost 20,000 cycling participated. Pork Belly Ventures supported my ride. My team was Berkshires of Massachusetts. The ride was more than just good, it was a spiritual journey! One day I rode over 100 miles, having done the Kerras optional loop.

This is a photo of a hedgehog, taken at the British Wildlife Centre (www.britishwildlifecentre.co.uk).
It's nice to see one of these that wasn't flat. Cute little things :-)
A hedgehog is any of the spiny mammals of the subfamily Erinaceinae and the order Erinaceomorpha. There are 17 species of hedgehog in five genera, found through parts of Europe, Asia, Africa, and New Zealand (by introduction).
The name 'hedgehog' came into use around the year 1450, derived from the Middle English 'heyghoge', from 'heyg', 'hegge' = hedge, because it frequents hedgerows, and 'hoge', 'hogge' = hog, from its piglike snout. Other names include 'urchin', 'hedgepig' and 'furze-pig' .

Look underfoot. You are always nearer to the true sources of your power than you think. The lure of the distant and the difficult is deceptive. The great opportunity is where you are. Don't despise your own place and hour. Every place is the center of the world.
~ John Burroughs
When I meet somebody for the first time and they say, 'Where are you from?' I always reply, 'Lincolnshire, but don't tell anyone!' That said, I am actually quite protective of my home county and will politely point out that it is anything but flat... at least, not in the Wolds to the north (south of Boston, granted, it's flatter than Keira Knightley's chest department). In the city of Lincoln itself there is a pedestrianised area called 'Steep Hill' (best tackled when inebriated or not at all) that should give visitors some extra clues as to some of Lincolnshire's topography. Anyway, I've been meaning to shoot this view for a couple of years, and today was the day. It's looking south from Keal Hill (yes, a hill!) towards Boston, and if you Go Large you may be able to see Boston Stump to the far right, on the horizon.
Jersey 2008 (R 2085)
This photo is part of a big set of my summer vacation in Jersey and France, in 2008.
You may find some of the best shots from this vacation in JeromesPOV, check the Jersey / France 2008-set while I add more over the next months.
