I know how you must feel, Brad ... (1963).
Lichtenstein devotes himself to the calculated clichés of comic book novels. Man's loneliness and longing are satirised by simple comic slogans. Lichtenstein searched for ridiculous, pointed and meaningful speech bubbles addressing general problems.

Thinking of him (1963).
Lichtenstein blows up tiny comic panels up to the size of monumental paintings. Weeping women with large stylised tears belong to his signature subjects. The image is radically cropped and seemingly cut-out silhouettes are heavily rhythmised.

Girl in window (1963).
This picture is a preparatory work for the mural Lichtenstein painted for the 1964 World's Fair. His work responded to the flooding of cityscape with advertising. He parodied the huge, loud, sensational billboards. The overall theme was modern urban planning.

Drowning girl (1963).
Lichtenstein plays with sentimental emotions, the pain of love could only exist corrupted by kitsch. His comic book imagery contains numerous references to art history - in this example, the waves quote Hokusai's famous woodblock print "The Great Wave off Kanagawa".

Vicki! I - - I thought I heard your voice! (1964).
From love-stary comics, Lichtenstein borrowed the ever-identical pattern of attractive girls, exalted gestures and speech bubbles. The most banal clichés are presented like familiar daydreams recurring in many popular romance novels.
