11478 VTCMixWeiss Serie 5328_3 Nordlandfahrt Kaiser Wilhelms II. mit Schnelldampfer Augusta Viktoria und SMY Hohenzollern II ~ 1900. Cikorienfabrikate J. G. Weiss Stettin Nordlandfahrt.

--------------------------------------------

Kaiser Wilhelm II also visited Norway on several occasions, whose magnificent nature, proudly and sublimely constructed of islands and sea, mountains and valleys, and whose energetic, robust people continually drew him back. Through these voyages, which the monarch undertook aboard his yacht, the Hohenzollern, he got to know the country and people of Norway very well. As a sprightly walker, our Emperor occasionally undertakes excursions into the mountains and on these occasions also uses the carriage commonly used on land, called a "Skjut" by the locals, which has two tall, narrow wheels and a low seat. Long trips to the Lofoten Islands, the North Cape, etc. are also undertaken. Encounters with other ships, especially those of German nationality, always bring great joy. The picture below shows the encounter between the "Hohenzollern" and the express steamer "Augusta Viktoria".

In June 1914 Hohenzollern II attended the Kiel regatta and on 25 June the last state banquet was held on board to entertain officers of the British fleet whose ships had been invited to attend.

At the end of July 1914 Hohenzollern II was put out of service in Kiel, the last captain being Kapitän zur See Johannes V. Karpf. The ship became property of the Weimar Republic in 1918. Struck on 27 February 1920, she was scrapped in 1923 in Wilhelmshaven.
