sur la ligne 91 à destination de Montparnasse 2 – Gare TGV (Paris 14e / 15e), arrêt Bastille – Beaumarchais, boulevard Beaumarchais, Paris (4ème arrondissement, Île-de-France, France, FR)
I have posted quite a few shots of Paris Bastille station in September 1969 but these two, although similar to others, have never been seen before. I tried to stitch them into a panorama but failed!
Plenty of steam in the station at rush hour with SNCF 141TB484 with 422 & 463 alongside all on commuter trains to Boissy-Saint-Leger. Along with Gare du Nord services these were the last steam-hauled commuter trains in France, Bastille steam finished in December 1969.
The station was razed and the Bastille Opera house is now located on the site. The commuter services still run but as part of Line A of the RER system they pass beneath the area in tunnel en route to l'Etoile & La Defense.

SNCF 141TB 422 is in platform 1 while 484 is alongside in platform 2.

A detail of the cast numberplate of SNCF tank 141TB463 waiting in the platform at Gare de la Bastille. The 141TB locos were built before the first world war by La Compagnie des Chemins de Fer de l'Est, 463 entering service in 1914.
These big suburban 2-8-2 tanks were shedded at Nogent Vincennes depot hence the additional smaller plate. The button TIA sign at the bottom indicates that water softening treatment chemicals (Treatment Integral Armand) were added to the boiler feed to counter the effect of hard water.
SNCF suburban tank 141TB 422 is departing for Boissy-Saint-Léger from platform 3 of the 1859 station at Paris Gare de la Bastille while in Platform 4 141TB463 is shunting its stock. The 141TB locos were built before the first world war by La Compagnie des Chemins de Fer de l'Est.
The gantry over all the tracks carries the semaphore signalling (carree) and the signal box can be seen as the line swings eastwards parallel to Avenue Daumesnil.
I only just managed to see this station & its service because the last steam train departed on 14th December 1969, a 110 years after its opening. Trains were then diverted onto the new cross-Paris RER A line to La Defense. It was later demolished in 1984 to make way for the Opera de la Bastille.
The installation of Olympic rings was unveiled at Place de la Bastille on July 21, 2024 in the lead up to the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics.
Place de la Bastille, located at the intersection of the 4th, 11th, and 12th arrondissements, marks the former site of the Bastille prison. On July 14, 1789, revolutionaries stormed the Bastille, an event that ignited the French Revolution and is still celebrated annually as Bastille Day.
