When I learned that Rose-breasted Grosbeaks are supposed to like jelly, I decided to put out the jelly feeder when two male Grosbeaks showed up this past weekend.
After just a few sightings of the Grosbeaks, and NO visits to the jelly feeder, I wasn't sure if "ours" were going to be cooperative. BUT, late yesterday evening I could not believe when I saw the Catbird visit not once but two times within 30 minutes! Now that's a new one for me!
And since I also learned that chickadees, hummingbirds and some finches also like jelly, I'm seriously thinking about keeping the feeder out for a few more months to see if there are any takers. Not holding my breath on the chickadees or finches since we've never seen them at the jelly feeder when we put it out for the Orioles - but maybe the hummers?
And if that Catbird keeps on checking it out, I may pinch myself!
They showed up yesterday and I wasnt happy with the photos I got, but today I was able to get at least this one that Im ok with. The Gray Catbirds are back, they nest somewhere close to the Thrashers in the brush line in the neighbors yard, but they come over here for food. They havent started doing their weird stuff yet, like slow mo flying thru the yard, but they are being twitchy and somewhat goofy. Always glad to see them back.
