A busy scene at the junction of Granby Street and Gallowtree Street in Leicester on a cold day in circa 1974. Amidst the crossing pedestrians, a Ford Consul Classic saloon makes the turn into Granby Street, while a BMC 1100 and a Rover P6 get held up on Gallowtree. The man to the right looks sternly towards the camera, probably more out of curiosity, but it all adds to the interest of the everyday scene.
Leicester City Transport 122 held at the lights is a bus that is happily still with us, rescued to preservation many years ago. The Eastern Coach Works bodied Bristol RELL6L had been new to Leicester City Transport in December 1969, one of 20 of the type numbered 116 to 135 (TRY116H - 135H). In October 1980, 122 was one of five of these buses sold by LCT to Ipswich Borough Transport for further use (numbers 118-122). On withdrawal from Ipswich in c1989, the bus was acquired for preservation and has recently been returned to the road after a long rebuild back to its original Leicester City Transport condition. Additionally, sister bus 118 also survives in preservation.
