This takes me back to the collapse of the Sultanate of Aceh on the island of Sumatra, following a thirty-year war of conquest by the viciously greedy Dutch.

Per an inscription around the corner from this one, here was the Deutsche Evangelical Lutheran Friedens Kirche.
Friedens Kirche equals "Peace Church."
Was Arthur Pillsbury a Friedens Kirche worshiper? Or was he just there to get paid as an archt.
Peace churches soon became unfashionable in the U.S., and have never since been fashionable.
