These two photos are ten years apart and taken from near enough the same spot. The view in both cases looks out from Messina station to the adjacent depot and shows the 2022 view at the top and the 2012 view below. The big change here is the replacement of the articulated 656 class by the 652 class. These 656 class were most unusual in design and were built in great numbers between 1975 and 1989 whilst the 656 locomotives were built between 1986 to 1996.
Sicily has long been a staging post for old Italian locomotives and my understanding is that the the earlier design has now all but disappeared from their network. I wonder how much longer the newer design will last.
