Vintage March 1966 issue of The Big Boys - a Men’s Beefcake Muscle Posing Magazine. These magazines were devoted to physique photography of muscular "beefcake" men – typically young and attractive hunky boys - in athletic poses and revealing minimal clothing. They were presented as magazines dedicated to fitness, health, and bodybuilding, with the models often shown demonstrating exercises or the results of their regimens, or as artistic photographic reference material. However, their unstated primary purpose was erotic imagery similar to their counterpart female model artist and photographer magazines. Physically fit out of work struggling actors, recently discharged servicemen, ex-convicts, hustlers, boosters, drifters and ne’er do wells proved to be a wealth of candidates to choose from as models. Tattoos were a plus. It’s always a thrill when it’s from Vinnie DeVille!
