Street photography from Glasgow, Scotland.

Unseasonably hot weather for the UK this week once again as an increasingly unstable jet stream, owing to climate change, pulls up some heat from the south. I'll need the factor 50 and plenty of hydration if I can make it into Glasgow tomorrow, the forecast being as high as 22C.

Thank you for your favourites, comments and support for my photograph. Take care my Flickr friends.

Take care and take photos.

Trans Women are Women by Leanne Boulton

Trans Women are Women

© Leanne Boulton, All Rights Reserved

Reportage photography from Glasgow, Scotland.

Hundreds of trans people, their friends, family and allies gathered to peacefully protest a recent supreme court ruling.

Thousands gathered in London to protest with other cities across the UK pulling in hundreds and hundreds more.

Tens of Evangelical Christians held a counter-protest nearby.

I am not impartial. I have had trans friends at points in my life. I have heard the, often painful, stories of their lives from their earliest memories. They don't choose this. Who would deliberately put themselves through such an experience in a world that shows them so much hate and abuse?

The issue surrounding trans people today is a far right and religious fundamentalist attack on one of the most vulnerable and marginalised groups in society.

We are one species, with a vast array of naturally occurring difference, on one tiny oasis in the vacuum of space. Share love. Share compassion. Share empathy. It makes the world a better place for us all.

Trans women are women. Trans men are men.

Full Scottish Breakfast by Leanne Boulton

Full Scottish Breakfast

Street photography from Glasgow, Scotland.

I actually enjoy a Full Scottish as it includes three kinds of sausage! Lorne, a flat beef sausage (colloquially called 'square sausage'), links (normal sausage) and Scottish black pudding which is much nicer than the English variety to me, it's slightly spicier with less fat and more oatmeal.

It's been a LONG time since I enjoyed a full breakfast of any kind and it will be a LONG time until anyone can enjoy George Square in Glasgow, the scene of this photograph today. George Square will be behind hoardings for at least 18 months as it undergoes a major revamp.

As Glasgow's most loved and best known public space, it will be sorely missed during that time. It has been a key location for meetings, protests, major sporting events and is home to the cenotaph too. The vision for the 'new' George Square includes more greenery and trees, some covered seating, a play area, a water feature and stone flooring instead of asphalt.
The hoardings will be decorated with images of Glasgow's past, present and future vision.

I hope that you all have an awesome week ahead my Flickr friends. Enjoy.

Lost in Thought (and Daffodils)

Tucked beneath a tree in George Square, a lone figure lounges among a sea of daffodils, looking like a philosophy student who’s either contemplating life’s great mysteries… or just texting someone about lunch. In a square ruled by academia, he’s opted for nature’s lecture theatre—no PowerPoint, just petals and peace.

Urban Art: George Square, Edinburgh

George Square is a city square in Edinburgh, Scotland. It is in the south of the city centre, adjacent to the Meadows. It was laid out in 1766 outside the overcrowded Old Town, and was a popular residential area for Edinburgh's better-off citizens. In the 1960s, much of the square was redeveloped by the University of Edinburgh, although the Cockburn Association and the Georgian Group of Edinburgh protested. Most but not all buildings on the square now belong to the university (among the exceptions being the Dominican priory of St Albert the Great). Principal buildings include the Gordon Aikman Lecture Theatre, Edinburgh University Library, 40 George Square and Appleton Tower.

Police Box - Change of Use

George Square, Edinburgh

One of the 142 former Police Boxes in Edinburgh.
Most, if not all have been sold off and have new uses as coffee bars or tour guide stations.
The Police Box Network dates from 1932 and this is evidenced by the fact that most have sinks installed with the date embedded in them. Most were designed by City Architect Ebenezer MacRae and manufactured by Carron Ironworks of Falkirk. The boxes used to have sirens on top and were used by officers to phone into the station, report and get further instructions. The aforementioned sink in each box served as an urinal, washing facility and a tap to provide refreshment.
