Sunswept

Here I shot directly into the sun to get this view of San Juan looking from Castillo San Cristobal to Castillo San Felipe del Morro in the distance. I think the Pixel did a great job holding onto detail and contrast in the harsh lighting. You can see how few other tourists were around at the end of the day. The 45 minutes we had were magical. We thought we might be able to return the next day but rain took us in another direction.

Winter Weather

Probably the most boring title I have ever used. A good contrast with the photo I hope! Some grain added in post but the snow is all real.

In Living Color

I converted this portrait to black and white primarily to obscure the background. I think vignetting suits black and white images better than color. I wish I had the skill to replace backgrounds! Maybe I can blur the background more completely and can replace this image later. In the meantime . . .

I replaced it but not with a more blurred background. I didn't like the color cast so tried to correct that. I tried to make the colors similar to #2.

I found it difficult to process these irises. I was doing the entire set in On1 when I ran into a problem with the iris shots. A strange grid appeared in the background. I had to reprocess them in Elements 2020 as I could not avoid the artifact redoing it in On1. And, in Elements, I had a hard time getting the contrast, noise level, and color acceptable to me. In the end, pretty happy. I have one more that was a good deal easier I may post later.

Colorado Flurries

This was the hardest it snowed during this walk--not much at all. The weather changed so much that the sky's appearance varied from being just a featureless white expanse to more sculpted and colorful cloud formations. Great to go through the entire set and find the uniqueness of each shot though so many were taken in such a relatively short period of time.

In terms of the processing, I am using Luminar 4 as a plug-in a good deal now that I have purchased it and added it to my homebase software. Just my own preset at about a 50% opacity to add just a bit more pop to the clouds.

I also kept the white balance cool here. I don't quite remember the color temp at the time of the shoot though I think this may be pretty accurate. I typically use a standard preset: daylight, cloudy, shade. All of them can miss, even distort, the actual color temp. Maybe auto would be better. Still, my effort is to create an image that pleases me so I will take that latitude and run with it!

Lay My Body Down

Took a tour of the St. Louis Cemetery shortly after arriving in New Orleans. They have quite a unique way of dealing with the dearly departed.

A family of raccoons stayed back behind the pigs. The captain did throw a few scraps to them.

Getting Acclimated

My first hike the day after arriving in Colorado. A good intro as I got used to the elevation.

Rocky Mountain National Park: Popular View Point

This was my first stop in the park. The day before saw a 50 degree temperature drop and two or three inches of snow. It warmed up on this day to a high in the low twenties, warm enough to go out and about. I saw a few people wearing just a shirt and pants taking pics with cellphones then running back to their cars.

RMNP: More Mountains

I enjoyed using the four lenses I brought to Colorado and found the oldest lens of the bunch, my NIkon 28-105, to be the most useful.
