Plante vivace ou bisannuelle. Floraison de mai à août.
On la trouve dans les prairies, pâturages, bords de chemins, friches, sur sols riches et ensoleillés.
La nuit et par temps couvert, les campanules baissent la tête. Par beau temps, elles se redressent.
Le mot campanule, apparu à la fin du XVIIe siècle, dérive de campanula (du latin campana) "Petite Cloche" qui désignait déjà la plante au VIIIe siècle.
