NABU Hessen ruft zur Meldung des ersten Kuckucks auf
Wetzlar(pm). Allmählich tauchen nach und nach immer mehr Frühlingsboten in Hessen auf und erfreuen uns mit Blüten, brummenden Wildbienen und Frühlingsgesang. Ab Mitte März kann man mit etwas Glück auch schon einen ganz besonderen und beliebten Frühlingsvogel hören: den Kuckuck. „Um mehr darüber zu erfahren, wie sich der Langstreckenzieher dem Klimawandel anpasst, bitten wir alle Naturfreunde, die ersten Kuckuckrufe im Frühling zu melden“, erläutert Maik Sommerhage, Landesvorsitzender des NABU Hessen, das Ziel des Aufrufs. Meldungen können direkt auf der Webseite www.kuckuck-hessen.de abgegeben werden. „Beim Kuckuck ist der Name Programm und da sein Ruf so unverwechselbar ist, kann sich alle problemlos an der NABU-Aktion beteiligen“, so Sommerhage. Viele Frühlingsvögel treffen aufgrund der Klimaerwärmung immer zeitiger in Hessen ein. So sind die Weißstörche bereits emsig in ihren Horsten zugange und auch die ersten Rotmilane sind aus der Winterpause zurück in Hessen. Beim Kuckuck, der als Langstreckenzieher in Afrika überwintert, wird bislang angenommen, dass er seine Ankunftszeit noch nicht an den Klimawandel angepasst hat. Die ersten Tiere kommen zwar schon im März bei uns an, sein charakteristischer Ruf aber meist erst im Laufe des Aprils bei uns zu hören. Viele Wirtsvögel des Kuckucks wie z.B. Rotkehlchen, Hausrotschwanz, Zaunkönig, Bachstelze und Teichrohrsänger beginnen jedoch immer früher mit ihrer Brut.

Although I grew up having common cuckoos (Cuculus canorus) around me, and met many on my hikes in the mountains when I had a dog, I have never gotten good pictures of them.

Not even last summer, when I visited my parents for 4 weeks, with a cuckoo in the trees surrounding their garden many times during my stay.

In Greece last May, there were many of them flying around us as we sat by a canal to photograph other birds. So I took some of them as well, to have at least something of the species I know so well ツ

It is the only cuckoo species in Europe. In the rest of the world's continents, there are many cuckoo species, often colourful.

Our common cuckoo is a long-distance migratory bird found throughout Europe, North Africa and most of Asia. European cuckoos winter in parts of tropical Africa (south of the Sahara).

I look forward to hear them again, from early May.
