1908 is the year my grandfather's cycling career began. Soon he would also be driving here. But not yet in 1908.
Start of a race on a Sunday in early July at the Scheveningen track.

"Cycling races at the Maastricht Cycling Course.
The main event: competition with live pacing."
Competition held in August or September 1925, when exactly that is not made clear in the magazine.
Although my grandfather Frits Wiersma was then in the latter days of his cycling career (he permanently switched to the pacer motorbike around 1930), I can still find him participating and even sometimes winning races until 1928. But whether he participated in this race?
There were several cycling tracks in and around Maastricht. This is a cement track and I think it is the Maastricht-Amby cycling track; a 400-metre track opened from 1895 - 1930.
Also nice to know: in 1902, Marshall 'Major' Taylor also rode here.
