magnolia warbler male at Lake Meyer Park IA 116A0931

After wintering in tropical forests across Central America, magnolia warblers are migrating to Canada's boreal forest where they will nest in dense conifer trees. Male magnolia warblers are one of the most beautiful wood warblers that we get to enjoy here in the Driftless Region.

Tennessee warbler at Lake Meyer Park IA 116A0538

This charming Tennessee warbler was busy drinking the sweet nectar from those wild plum blossoms. Just like the palm warbler that I showed yesterday, this Tennessee warbler wintered in Central America or northern South America and is on its way to the boreal forests in Canada where some soft sphagnum moss on the ground would make a nice nesting site.

I had an hour or spare so had a walk around Manor park in Glossop with a TTArtisan 100mm F2.8 (Bubble Bokeh) lens on my Sony a7Riv via an m42 adapter .
The lens is a copy of the old Meyer Trioplan lenses .
It's a lens sold for it's character , bubble bokeh , a bit soft wide open with a glow about it .

Ben

Introducing Ben , a cross Bedlington terrier , black Labrador cross .
One of the few times he's quiet between manic sessions !
Not the best subject for a manual focus lens .

Welta Reflekta II by Bruce_of_Oz

Welta Reflekta II

Another rescued camera: Welta Reflekta II with Meyer Trioplan 75/3.5 lens. I have a soft spot for TLRs and Trioplan lenses, thus I got this one from Germany.

However it had some major issues: big dent on the winding knob makes loading film and winding impossible; mirror is very dim; slow speeds are too slow. Now most are sorted, except the slow speeds (I'm not familiar with the Vebur shutter). It is ready for action!

Welta Reflekta II and Ikoflex Ia by Bruce_of_Oz

Welta Reflekta II and Ikoflex Ia

They are cousins from East and West Germany from similar era. Both are basic Twin Lens Reflex cameras that are aimed for the mass market.

Left: Welta Reflekta II with Meyer Gorlitz Trioplan 75/3.5 lens
Right: Ikoflex Ia with Carl Zeiss Nova Anastigmat 75/3.5 lens

They are very similar in design and function. Both lenses are triplet design. Manual shutter cocking that is separate from film winding.

Differences:
1) The Ikoflex has a fresnel lens in its viewfinder, and is more evenly lit and slightly brighter in the corners.
2) The Ikoflex has automatic frame stop for film advance, while the Reflekta uses red window

Baltimore oriole male at Lake Meyer Park IA 116A0364

This colorful guy is just returning to his summer home here in the park after spending the winter somewhere in Central America or possibly even Columbia in South America. He'll be busy now staking out a territory to share with his future wife when she arrives in a few days.

rose-breasted grosbeak male at Lake Meyer Park IA 116A0311

This handsome male rose-breasted grosbeak returned to Lake Meyer Park before I got back from Florida. He spent the winter somewhere in Central America or northern South America so he had a long journey to get here. Rose-breasted grosbeaks are a common summer resident and nesting bird in the Driftless Region.
