This coach has caused me some problems this evening, as I found that I had no note of it in my log for the day, and it turns out that my colleague had a similar omission. It looks likely that it was locked up and abandoned for the day, something that would become a feature of Quest operation round the country very shortly ....
However, after some research, I now know that this was the prototype Quest J-type, later to become B490 GBD, and first operated by Arthur Monk in London. Earlier in 1984, it had been at a trade show at the NEC in Birmingham, lettered for Heyfordian, but they never took delivery of it - if they had even ordered it. The lower stripes are Heyfordian's style and colours, although this scan may not show them correctly.
As with most things Quest, it had an unhappy existence, suffering fire damage in 1990 while with Stewart's of Dalkeith. That should have hastened its demise, but not so - see my picture of it below for its later history.
