The Intercity 727 from Rome to Palermo/Siracusa is now regularly run by two distinct trainset made up by an E464 and four coaches each.
In this case, the heading locomotive, the E464.276, is also equipped with the optional Battery pack installed on the roof top aimed to allow "Last Mile" performances and free access to the Messina Straight ferries without the need of shunters locomotives in Reggio and Messina stations.
