I was not supposed to be on this flight; exactly 28 years to the day I had first traveled to London on United Airlines, I was supposed to fly United to London again, this time nonstop from Los Angeles. However, my flight was cancelled, and I had to scramble to get this alternate routing: Orange County to Newark, then on to London. On a special anniversary I wanted to mark by flying to one of my hometowns on my favorite airline, I was instead quite peeved.
Over Nashville, I am banking left to turn northeast toward the eastern seaboard. Sadly a nasty thunderstorm in Newark would mean a temporary closure of the airport; I would end up holding over Charlottesville, Virginia, before diverting to Washington Dulles to refuel. I would be over two hours late to Newark, but because my onward connection to London was also delayed, I was still able to make the connection.

At least I departed a few minutes early; I am crossing the Colorado River near Blythe, California, entering Arizona. My routing would stay quite southerly - flying mostly due east over Phoenix, Oklahoma City, and Nashville, before turning northeast.
