We left the horse drawn “carriage” and headed down another block I’d noticed some cool gate and yard accents. I turned around and saw the carriage coming our way again. I loved this shot with the beauty of the San Tan Valley in the background.

People and animal watching is always fun, but taking a short drive around the ten or so blocks in our neighbourhood never disappoints. This farmer out working his horses on the trailer was not slowing down for me, but I managed to talk to him a little and tell him what I was doing. I wished I’d had a smaller lens on, but still, does this give you that early evening “still things to get done” feel?

This beautiful black cow looked at me with the most gentle eyes. She didn’t seem curious or alarmed, just gentle and almost wise. I couldn’t understand how she was so calm with all those flies in her face. But oh was she pretty!

Across the street from the pretty white guard dogs was a lovely property framed with trees all around and three horses grazing in rich green grass. The sun was easing its way to the horizon and flashing through the trees. It was such a lovely scene, but a bit hard to capture through the fence line.

There is a farm we drive by pretty much every time we go out toward Queen Creek and we see these long horn bulls. I have wanted photos, but with the barriers of fences and cross fences, it’s hard to get a clear shot. My next step is to try to meet the farm owners and see if they’ll let me get a better vantage point. Gotta love the variety of animals just around us!

After playing peek-a-boo with the Emus, I watched the cows awhile then came back and worked at getting this Emu to look over the fence and pose for a portrait. Haha. I think he did pretty well.

We drove a few blocks more, turned a corner and I saw two Emu in one of the crossed fence areas of a farm. I had to see if I could get photos of them. We played a crazy hide and seek, peek a boo game around the fence line. This one played with me a long while sticking his head over the fence and ducking when my camera lens came up. I had to play with focus to have a clear shot without the fence, and was happy to get at least one shot!

A few blocks down, one of the properties has a herd of sheep with several young ones. They watched me closely as I walked up and down the fence trying to get my shot. I would’ve loved to be closer and have better light, but it was still fun to spend time with them.
