Today 2025/04/29 is Willie Nelson's 92nd birthday!

I thought it was time for another panorama of the new downtown mural. This time I wanted to capture a larger surrounding environment.

Willie Rises Again!

Willie is revived on the now visible side of this building after the building that was next door to this wall was demolished. The building that was demolished had long held a mural of Willie Nelson and Janice Joplin.

I really like the shallow DOF in this image and the focus on the strings. And the bokeh on the right side, to me, almost looks like water but nothing got spilled on the puzzle! Thank you all because of you Flickr is one of my favorite places!

Country/Blues/Jazz/Gospel- Willie Nelson, Texas, Hillsboro

Willie Hugh Nelson, born in the Hill County Texas town of Abbott, on April 29, 1933, rose to fame in the 1960s as a singer, guitarist, and songwriter. Over his music career, Nelson produced more than 100 albums, including 18 gold and platinum records. Honors include Grammy Awards, Country Music Association Awards, and Academy of Country Music Awards. During his career, he challenged the conservatism of Nashville's music industry and became a central figure in the “outlaw country” movement of the 1970s. His unique style of playing and singing allowed him to cross from traditional country into blues, gospel, and other genres, creating powerful songs and tunes. In my opinion, he is a man of courage who stands tall and free. And conducts himself with grace and humility. He is charitable coming to the aid of others in their time of need. For example, he was an advocate for family farmers who suffered financially during the 1980s by working with other musicians to host annual Farm Aid concerts that raised money for distressed family farm owners.

Willie Nelson produced and sung a lot of songs. However, my favorite song that he sang was written and composed by Kris Kristofferson and released in 1970. Others have sung the song but none quite like Willie (note: Gladys Knight came close). In my view, nobody topped Willie Nelson when he sang "Help Me Make It Through the Night"

....Come and lie down by my side
'Til the early morning light
All I'm takin' is your time
Help me make it through the night

I don't care what's right or wrong
And I won't try to understand
Let the devil take tomorrow
Lord, tonight I need a friend....

Another From Fleeting Farms

Here is the background. The family farm has been fading to extinction for decades. I applaud those that have hung on.

Interest rates got them in the 1980's. Poor decisions were made that bit them. But since then. It's been "How Hard Can We Squeeze 'EM". And that comes from the chemical companies and seed companies.

You have to go big or die, the idea of the "family farm" is largely dead, you must think like Target or Walmart when it comes to operation of said farm. I'd say it's a a sad day, but It's been sad decades.

The motion blur represents time and those in control marching on with their idea of the family farm vs what it had been.

She's gone, gone, gone, gone, gone, gone
Crying won't bring her back
The more that I cry

Willie Hugh Nelson (born April 29, 1933) is an American singer, guitarist and songwriter. He was one of the main figures of the outlaw country subgenre that developed in the late 1960's as a reaction to the conservative restrictions of the Nashville sound and member of country supergroup The Highwaymen, along with fellow singers Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson. Nelson has acted in over 30 films and co-authored several books making him one of the most recognized artists in country music.

Nelson was born in Abbott, Texas which is just 10 miles south of Hillsboro, Texas. He wrote his first song at age seven and joined his first band at ten. Later, he attended Abbott High School, where he was a halfback on the football team, guard on the basketball team, and shortstop in baseball. He also raised pigs with the Future Farmers of America. While still in high school, he sang and played guitar in The Texans, a band formed by his sister's husband, Bud Fletcher. The band played in honky-tonks, and also had a Sunday morning spot at KHBR in Hillsboro. The mural above is painted on the side of a multi-story building located just off of court square in Hillsboro as well. It features Willie in the later part of his life with his long braids and the iconic cowboy hat.

"I used to work in the cotton fields a lot when I was young. There were a lot of African Americans working out there. A lot of Mexicans - the blacks and the whites and the Mexicans, all out there singing, and it was like an opera in the cotton fields, and I can still hear it in the music that I write and play today."
-- Willie Nelson
