A mixture of inclement weather and network delays has affected the running of GWA's loaded grain 2184S from Tailem Bend as locomotives FQ04/ALF18/ALF20/FQ02/FQ01 cruise through Hawthorn bound for Pelican Point on Wednesday the 28th of December 2016.
This train was one of many to service Tailem Bend's grain facility at the time, using the additional run numbers 1283S/2184S to run a second division. This train departed on Tuesday night and was supposed to be back before daylight but a CTC failure on the South line and delays to higher priority services resulted in 2184S making it downhill around midday.

On Friday 12/10/2018, 2184s (loaded GWA grain ex Wolseley) is seen rounding the curve at Callington (SA) with shitboxes alf23-alf19-alf21 in charge of 30 AHAY hoppers & ADFY5 (crew van).
The train was 550.9 metres long & had a weight of 2,780 tonnes (70 tonnes less than what triple alf’s are allowed on the Adelaide-Tailem Bend section).
It is very rare for GWA to run a south line grain without any of their modern power, triple alf’s are considered to be even rarer.
After completing a crew change near by, loaded GWA grain service 2184S from Wolseley to Port Adelaide powers between Cooke Plains and Tailem Bend with GWU006/ALF22/GWA007 on Saturday the 30th of December 2017.
As of December 2017, locomotives GWU004, GWU005, GWU006 and GWU007 are the only GWU class units in South Australia while the remainder of the class are currently engaged in GWA's Hunter Valley coal operations in New South Wales with plans to send most, if not all the SA based GWU units over to assist.
