What looks like as small yard are actually six main lines representing four of the five Class 1 railroads operating in Memphis, Tennessee. UP 7895, on the UP Memphis Sub main, and UP 3946, on the NS Memphis District west main, are at Tower 17 in downtown Memphis waiting to go west. An empty Miller coal train, also looking to go west, sits on BNSF Thayer South Sub main 1 with the head end out of picture at CN Junction. So, from left-to-right, CSX Memphis Terminal Sub, NS Memphis District west main, UP Memphis Sub, NS Memphis District east main, BNSF Thayer South Sub main 2 and BNSF Thayer South Sub main 2.

Elgin, Joliet & Eastern 703 is the trailing unit on this day's RJY30 transfer train between NS Harris Yard and CN Harrison Yard in Memphis.

Approaching the McLemore Avenue overpass, Canadian National's RJY30 is led by IC 9563, which was built in 1972 as GM&O 743. Also in the consist are engines CN 5295 and EJ&E 703.

Canadian National's RJY30 comes off the BNSF Thayer South Sub, and onto the CN Memphis Sub at CN Junction in downtown Memphis, with engines IC 9563, CN 5295 & EJ&E 703.

IC 9563 was built in 1972 as GM&O 743.

A pair of former BN units (IC numbers, CN colors) make the turn at CN Junction into the wye heading for home at Johnston Yard with this transfer train from BNSF's Tennessee Yard on the other side of Memphis.

Coming into Memphis on BNSF main 2, a former ATSF warbonnet is sandwiched in between a BNSF C44-9W and Santa Fe GP60.

CN's President's Island crew takes the transfer train from the NS to CN Johnston Yard via the BNSF's Thayer South Sub. UP's ILCNS heads for a transfer to the NS with engine 4653 in the lead as it approaches the signals. Having come into Memphis as NS 391, UP 9100 waits in the distance to take this transfer to Pine Bluff as MMEPBB.

The CN to UP transfer train MMENLD comes off the CN Memphis Sub at CN Junction onto the BNSF Thayer South Sub, en route to the UP Memphis Sub, with a westbound move for Little Rock, Arkansas.

The action is picking up in downtown Memphis. BNSF 6070 waits for a signal on BNSF main 2 with the E MHSBKM0 52A empty coal train. Ex-Conrail NS 8449 holds on the UP main with a westbound intermodal (maybe ZNSLC) while CSX 4784 creeps up on the CSX main with UP AMENL.

As the sun sets, CSX power leads the UP AMEML off CSX track onto UP track. In the distance former Conrail engine NS 8449 is out front of an intermodal train on the UP main. BNSF 6070 is on BNSF main 2 with empty coal E MHSBKM0 52A.

BNSF 6070 holds at CN Junction with the empty coal train E MHSBKM0 52A on BNSF main 2. The Union Pacific train MMEPBB comes off the NS main onto the UP main led by UP 4169.
