All Saints Church in Caddington, Bedfordshire, goes back to the time of the Norman conquest of Britain. The Normans did not bring Christianity to Britain - it had been there long before, but they were the ones introducing in a very big way military-grade church buildings made from stone. Christianity became very different in the hands of the new ruling elite and, clearly, was an instrument of ideological conquest too. And the building shows it.
