After a failure in the Adelaide Hills at Callington, ALF18 and CLP17 ran LE from the MPC to assist 2182 loaded grain train back to Adelaide resulting in this 7 loco lash up of CM3314,FQ04,CLP8,CLP14,ALF23,ALF18,CLP17 on the morning of 19-7-24. The photo was taken after the train had ran around at Bishops loop as Oyter Harbor could not take the train and the locos had to run around and take it to Dry Creek Nth yard
CM3302 leads BRM001, BRM002 and CM3303 towards Clandulla with CB01 empty SSR/Centennial coal train to Charbon.
Charbon mine closed in August 2015, only a few months after this photo was taken. The workforce and equipment from the mine was relocated to the nearby Airly Colliery near Capertee.
The mine once supplied coal to the nearby Kandos cement works, as well as Wallerawang and Mt Piper power stations. Some coal was also sent by rail to Port Kembla or Newcastle for export.
With the closure of Charbon, the line between Airly Junction and Kandos was mothballed, although it remains available for the occasional heritage train to run on to Kandos and Rylstone.
