Morning Z-Train at Horsethief Butte

A peaceful morning along the Columbia River is briefly disturbed by the usual passage of BNSF's Portland to Chicago Z-train, curving along the terrain of the lower Columbia Hills. Both Mount Hood and Horsethief Butte prominently stand out in this frame, and the very top section of The Dalles Dam can also be seen towards the top of the river.

FXE 4886, EB, HOLBROOK, AZ 5-3-2025

A "pack de tres" on the eve of Cinco de Mayo since I'll be working tomorrow and won't have the chance to post.

One of FXE's newest purchases is this AC44C6M, going east on BNSF's Q-LACLPC6-02. The unit was bought from NS after going through the Wabtec rebuild program, but before delivery. NS changed its mind and wanted to space out their delivery of units longer than what was planned. FXE was in immediate need of units and purchased these from the NS and had them repainted into a primer coat and delivered for use. Eventually they will get the new red and gray FXE scheme when traffic levels permit.

Bealville Departure

Shortly after letting three westbounds pass, a BNSF manifest departs the siding at Bealville to continue its climb up Tehachapi Pass. The passing trains don't seem to be bothering the local cattle, which can be spotted on the grass slopes below the ROW.

Dominating CM's

With five Rail First CM locomotives being used on grain services, it's now common practice to have at least one on a south line grain service, and on 5-5-24, 1281 empty to Tailem Bend was no exception as CM3306,GWA001,CM3310,GWA002 sit in the Montieth crossing loop waiting for a cross.

Descending the Pass at Cliff

A loaded BNSF grain train continues its dramatic descent to the San Joaquin Valley as it passes through the lush rolling hills of Tehachapi Pass. Spring green has stuck around a bit longer this year thanks to several showers and storms that occurred late in the season.
