Shun Feng Airlines (O3-CSS) / 757-2Z0(PCF) / B-2840 / 03-26-2025 / NRT

Very exciting for me as it's been years since I last encountered an SF Airlines 757! Since beginning of March 2025 they've been operating daily flights to NRT from Shenzhen (China).

An ex-China Southwest & ex-Air China frame before conversion & delivery to SF Airlines.

CSS Passenger at Ogden Dunes

It had been quite a while since I had been able to spend a full day shooting trains across the area, but I finally got a full day off to do so, and I took full advantage across not only Illinois, Indiana, but also for the first time in my life, Michigan!

Our fifth and rather quick stop was to Ogden Dunes for what we THOUGHT was a westbound CSS freight, but turned out to be CSS passenger 509 en route to South Bend, IN. We did not have much time as we needed to book it east for our final stop of the night!

The CSS 2002, 2010, and 2001 locomotives team up to bring the westbound AF12 via Clark Road, making use of their trackage rights on the CSX Barr Sub. Shortly after they would drop off all of their cars at Peiguss Yard in East Chicago and return light to Michigan City.

Happy ending

After dropping off all its cars at Peiguss Yard, AF12 launches east under the I90 bridge back toward home rails with a grand total of 0 cars from CSX.

Belt Job

A pair of CSS geeps bring the Belt Job (AF4?) west through Ogden Dunes & along Highway 12. 2004 sports a nice leslie while 2010 retains the maroon & gold scheme of the Louisville and Indiana Railroad. (sadly no PTC on 2010)

Absolute cinema

After roaming around Burnham, I noticed a pair of CSS GP38-2s with a crew aboard and a train ready in the yard. South Shore typically does not run many trains on Sundays, but there was an extra running. I made my way to Hammond, and not even 10 minutes later I hear the sound of 2001's RS3L blowing for the crossings near the NITCD station. About a minute later they rounded the curve with a hefty 50+ car long train. These two geeps were evidently struggling while ascending the grade to cross over the CSX Barr subdivision. Always a treat to capture one of these.
