The steam hauled passenger trains from Wolsztyn to Leszno or Poznan are still running although the future is very uncertain. The most photogenic train is the morning train to Leszno, which departs Wolsztyn at 6am on all weekdays. Despite the fact that the train mainly stops at small villages, at the end of the ride the train is well packed with mainly students. In the photo the Ol49-69 (actually Ol49-99) has just left Nowa Wieś Mochy and passes one of the two signal boxes. Part of the railwayline has recently been fitted with modern light signals, so it is only a matter of time before this beautiful scene is gone...
After numerous attempts during visits spanning six years, I managed to finally get this splendid location in sunshine, arguably the finest location on this stretch of line. On 21st January 2020, and observed by the crossing keeper holding his flag, Ol49-59 heads away from Nowawies Mochy station working the 11:48 Wolsztyn to Leszno passenger service.

Wolsztyn shed's 2-6-2 Ol49-59 working diagram 77505, the 07:54 Leszno to Wolsztyn passenger service on Monday 20th January 2020, heading away from its Nowa Wieś Mochy station stop and about to cross the Poludniowej Obry Kanal (South Obra Canal), disturbing a flock of birds from the lone tree in this otherwise tranquil location.

Ol49-59 departs from Nowawies Mochy on a splendid crisp, misty, and frosty morning, the 23rd January 2020, working the 07:54 Leszno to Wolsztyn passenger service. Such a pity that only a tender-first working could be recorded in these fabulous winter conditions!

Heading the 05:34 Wolsztyn to Leszno service on a bitterly cold 23rd January 2020, Ol49-59 waits at Nowawies Mochy for a Wolsztyn-bound service to cross. Everyday working steam traction on passenger services lives on!

Traditional mechanical signalling is still very much in evidence on the secondary Wolsztyn-Leszno line, and the Nowawies Mochy station area is no exception. With the extraordinarily long signal pull for the signalman, especially for the signal protecting the northern approach to this country station, hefty balance weights are necessary, the cabin situated just behind me in this scene. On 20th January 2020, Wolsztyn shed's solitray serviceable 2-6-2, Ol49-59, works away from its station stop, the 77544 11:48 Wolsztyn to Leszno passenger service.
