Timetable 'short' working 14.30 Grodzisk-Wolsztyn arrives with museum loco Ty3-2 rather unconvincingly posing as Reichsbahn BR42 42.1427 the loco's original identity.
15th October 1991
Ty3-2 (Ty43-126) is F Schichau, Elbing 4448/44 as DRB 42.1427 standing in stock to 1945 and one of three examples to pass to PKP.
BR42 (large Kriegslok) production: 1943 2nr, 1944 760nr and 1945 60nr approx.
Same number of axles as the DB's BR23 (previous post) but produced a decade earlier is PKP type Ol49.
6 x 4.5 Provia100F
4 secs / F4 plus manual flash.
Following return from Poznań loco Ol49-7 is busily received at about 22.30hrs for disposal at Wolsztyn before placement within the roundhouse.
In something a little over a year Wolsztyn would become a very different place with most of the historic museum collection sidelined and full dependence put on these able 2-6-2s. Apparently Ol49-7 survives in dumped condition at Leszno.

The steam hauled passenger trains from Wolsztyn to Leszno or Poznan are still running although the future is very uncertain. The most photogenic train is the morning train to Leszno, which departs Wolsztyn at 6am on all weekdays. Despite the fact that the train mainly stops at small villages, at the end of the ride the train is well packed with mainly students. In the photo the Ol49-69 (actually Ol49-99) has just left Nowa Wieś Mochy and passes one of the two signal boxes. Part of the railwayline has recently been fitted with modern light signals, so it is only a matter of time before this beautiful scene is gone...
