A spotted lanternfly in Mifflin county, Pennsylvania.

According to the US Department of Agriculture: The spotted lanternfly is an invasive pest that is a threat to grape vines, hops, apple,walnut and hardwood trees, and other agriculture crops. The spotted lanternfly is present in China, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, and Vietnam. In 2014, it was first seen in Pennsylvania. Since then, infestations have been seen in Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Ohio, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia.

Many states have set up quarantine zones with special restrictions in an attempt to stop the spread and destroy it.
