One of the guns are fired every day at 12 noon and 4pm. On the day this picture was taken (10th February) there was a public holiday (The Feast of St Paul's Shipwreck) and all 8 of the cannons were fired in turn.

The Fort has a long history and has seen action ranging from the Siege of Malta by the Ottomans in the 16th century to aerial bombardment by the Axis Powers in WWII.

Picture taken from the ferry terminal in Valletta, the ferries to the 3 cities across the Grand Harbour were not running that day due to too much swell.

Port la Valletta, the most majestic port in the Mediterranean Sea, also called the Grand Harbour, in Maltese Port il-Kbir, in Italian Porto Grande, used since the times of the Phoenicians.

Knights Hospitaller was the Order of Knights of the Hospital of Saint John of Jerusalem.

The Harbor was the naval base of the Knights Hospitaller for 268 years and, after their departure from Malta, became a strategic base of the British Empire for the next 170 years.
