Vintage hood unit X48 is seen running around its train at Anakie road, where it it will form 7732V to Geelong, with fellow hood unit XR559, and BL31. The train came down from Oaklands earlier in the morning as 7CM6. X48 is one of two X class locomotives still in service with PN, and to capture one of these leading is a rarity.

Poking out of the Dimboola Grain Centre onto the mainline while loading train 7725V are PN locomotives 8183/G527/XR559 on Friday the 24th of May 2024. Due to the train length and location of the loading chute, the consist has to draw forward onto the mainline by 3 hopper lengths to continue loading before network control requested the train back into the siding to lock away for JBR's 6MA8 to pass through on the mainline.
After the Overland cleared the section and the grain train finished loading, the locos will run around and wait for SCT's 3PM9 to overtake before returning to Dimboola yard as 7726V to stable overnight, eventually departing for North Geelong as 7734V the next day to discharge.

The township of Nhill plays host to one of the most difficult grain loading sites in Victoria with short siding lengths, an active interstate mainline running through the middle of the yard and a rather slow loading system. Engaged in loading empty grain service 7721V from Dimboola are PN locomotives X50/XR559 on Saturday the 22nd of June 2024.
The two locos have just been cut off from G519 (Out of frame behind the photographer) and will be placed in the shunting neck between the Mainline and the load road turnout to enable the G class to back a portion of the loaded hoppers onto the X/XR, these hoppers will then be placed on 2 road on the other side of the mainline while G519 continues to load the remaining hoppers. Once completed, the G will be placed on top of the XR/X before remarshalling the consist to return to Dimboola as 7722V before running to Geelong for discharging the next morning.
Grain services run to Nhill on a semi-regular basis and are operated by Pacific National and Southern Shorthaul Railroad, trips to this location are often a burden for rail traffic crews due to the complexities of the siding arrangements and Network Control requiring all shunting activities at Nhill to temporarily cease while services fly through the town on the mainline. The two operational X class locomotives remaining in PN’s Victorian Bulk fleet, X48 and X50 see regular use however rarely lead trains.

After an overnight run from Dimboola, loaded PN grain service 7734V is minutes away from its destination at North Geelong with 8173/XR559 on Saturday the 13th of April 2024. This train had loaded at Nhill the day before alongside 8160 as 7721V/7722V, later being stabled overnight at Dimboola. After discharging at North Geelong, the train will return West as 7733V to Murtoa to stable.

The sun is slowly rising over the yard at Murtoa as empty PN grain service 9785 to Warracknabeal is prepared for traffic behind XR559/G525/X48 on Saturday the 20th of July 2024, empty train 7737V sits alongside with G519/G527/8175 after arriving from North Geelong overnight.
Prior to departing, the XR would be removed from 9785 due to a flat battery, leaving the G and X to run the train. XR559 would later receive a jump start from G519 the following day while G527/8175 joined BL31 (Which arrived overnight on another empty train to compensate for G519 being left at Murtoa) on another train to Warracknabeal.
