Notes from Chapter 7 of ONE THOUSAND GIFTS by Ann Voskamp
âNothing here below is profane for those who know how to see,â by Pierre Teilhard de Chardin
âNothing happens to you except by the will of God, and yet [Godâs] beloved children curse it because they do not know it for what it is,â by Jean-Pierre de Caussade
Quotes from Ann Vaskamp in Chapter 7:
âThe parent must always self-parent first, self-preach before child-teach, because who can bring peace unless theyâve held their own peace? ⊠thereâs always the decent from the mount.â
âContemplative simplicity isnât a matter of circumstances, itâs a matter of focus.â
âNo material is opaque. If we are willing to see â people, circumstances, situations, relationships â all is transparent. ⊠To see the glory, name the graces.â
My thoughts after reading the chapter:
Loves achieves more than anger. I am a blasphemer. My first grade teacher didnât care that the boy hit me first before she saw me hit him back.
To paraphrase Vankamp, âThank you, God, that you donât leave me in my mess.â
Words with much meaning remind me of how I have reacted recently by withholding attention to one of Godâs children when I could have given it and didnât. Give me another chance, God, please. Let me see the Ugly Beautiful.
Today, March 23, 2011, is a special day. Itâs the first day Merlin didnât bark at me. Maybe Merlin saw Dave visiting with us on the screened porch and decided we were okay and not a threat to him.
To go with this Art of God, I was reminded of an old song. This video on YouTube is only 2 minutes long:
Come Loveâs Old Sweet Song-Bing Crosby
