Paddington, Scout and the 2025 Easter Egg Hunt 4.

JAGO: "Oh Daisy-Maud! Daisy-Maud wait until you see what I found!"

DAISY-MAUD: "What is it, dear Jago? Are you alright? What did you find?"

JAGO: "Well, I was looking for little blue Easter Eggs under and around the plant pots when suddenly I found this lovely big blue Easter Egg!"

DAISY-MAUD: "Oh! What a wonderful discovery Jago! I'm so happy for you!"

JAGO: "Why thank you, Daisy-Maud. But I can't eat this Easter Egg all by myself! It's much to big. May I share it with you, my little sister?"

DAISY-MAUD: "Oh I would be honoured, my big brother! However I think we will still have some left over. You see, even with a grumbly tummy each, I have been gathering lovely little blue Easter Eggs in my basket, so we will have plenty to eat! I am going to share some of my Easter Eggs with my sweet gentlebear Benny."

JAGO: "Oh yes, that's a lovely idea, Daisy-Maud! I know just how much he will enjoy eating Easter Eggs with you! I'm sure there will be plenty! I might share mine with Benny too!"

DAISY-MAUD: "That's very generous of you, Jago!"

JAGO: "Well, Easter is all about sharing, isn't it Daisy-Maud?"

DAISY-MAUD: "Oh it is, Jago."

JAGO: "And Benny is my best friend."

DAISY-MAUD: "And my sweet gentlebear!" *Blushes pink beneath mohair plush.* "I think he will like that a lot? I know I'd like to share them with him."

JAGO: "I know he would love that, Daisy-Maud. You are so kind and thoughtful."

DAISY-MAUD: "Well, I love Benny very, very much, and I like to make him happy!"

PADDY: "Hullo everyone and everybear! On behalf of Scout, Cousin Paddington, Bogart, Jago, Daisy-Maud, Rosie, Cornelia, Orson, Danny Boy, Algie, Bertie, Nanuk, Emmett, Edgar, Benjamin, Flock, Sapphire, Pearl, Prince Maurice, Freddy, Duckie, Daddy and myself I would like to wish all of our Flickr friends and followers a very happy Easter! May the day be filled with lots of fun, laughter and a chocolate Easter egg... or two! We are sending you all lots of special Easter big little bear hugs and snuffly kisses!"

Paddy has managed to share my thoughts most eloquently. A very happy Easter to you all!

Jago was a gift from a dear friend in England. He is made of English mohair with suede paw pads and glass eyes. He is a gentle bear, kind and patient who carries an air of calm about him. He is already fitting in with everyone else very nicely.

Daisy Maud is Jago's little sister and was made by the same friend in England who made him. She is made of German mohair with floral fabric cotton paw pads that match her pretty sunhat, and glass eyes. A sweet and loving little girl bear, she is happy to be reunited with her big brother, Jago, and enjoys being spoiled by her Daddy.

The basket that Daisy-Maud is using is a vintage 1950s thick paper examples which I acquired not long after Easter 2024. The body of the basket is all one piece that is folded together and slipped through cuts at the side. The handle is a separate piece that fits through slits at either end. I love their cute printed characters!

ROSIE: *Groans, pushes and shoves a large Easter Egg across the lawn.* "Look Scout! I found a lovely big Pink Easter Egg! It's so big there will be plenty to share with mijn prins Peter!"

SCOUT: "Oh! He will love that, Rosie! That's very kind of you!"

ROSIE: "Well, I love mijn prins Peter, so of course I am going to share my Easter Eggs with him. What are you doing, Scout?"

SCOUT: "I'm collecting more pretty pink Easter Eggs before every other bear collects them. I caught Nanuk trying to snaffle one!"

ROSIE: "I do hope you managed to get it back!"

SCOUT: "I did, Rosie, so don't worry! We can enjoy them later! Pink is my favourite colour you know."

ROSIE: "Mine too, and of course pink Easter Eggs taste the best of all!" Nods emphatically. "Now that I've found my Easter Egg, I'll help you! I see you found a pretty pale pink Easter Egg!"

SCOUT: "I did, Rosie! I am going to share it with mijn allerbeste vriend Peter too, and also with sweet Aurora!"

ROSIE: "Oh they will love that, Scout! How kind and generous you are!"

SCOUT: "We will have soooo many pretty pink Easter Eggs between us that we will have plenty for after Easter too!"

ROSIE: "Oh yes, Scout! Now let's keep looking for more pink Easter Eggs!"

SCOUT: "I think I see some over there, Rosie! Let's go!"

ROSIE and SCOUT: *Run across the lawn with Easter baskets, looking for pink Easter eggs.*

Scout was a gift to Paddy from my friend. He is a Fair Trade Bear hand knitted in Africa. His name comes from the shop my friend found him in: Scout House. He tells me that life was very different where he came from, and Paddy is helping introduce him to many new experiences. Scout catches on quickly, and has proven to be a cheeky, but very lovable member of our closely knit family.

Rosie is Scout's cousin, because like Scout, she is a free trade knitted bear from Africa. She was made in Kenya by one of the Kenana Knitters, Martha Wanjira. She is made from home spun and dyed wool. She was a gift to me from two very dear friends, including the one who gave Scout to Paddy.

ALGIE: "Scout! Scout!"

SCOUT: "What is it, Algie?"

ALGIE: "Scout I found these wonderful Easter eggs up here in the diosma!"

SCOUT: "Oh goody! Grumbly tummy, Algie! Grumbly tummy!" *Rubs tummy vigorously.* "Are there any pink ones?"

ALGIE: *Looks.* "Uuummm.... no, Scout. Only blue, green and a red and blue one."

SCOUT: "That's alright then. You can keep them, Algie! I only want pink Easter Eggs. They are my most favouritest Easter Eggs in the whole wide world!" *Nods enthustiastically.*

ALGIE: "Oh! Very good Scout." *Pauses.* "Err, Scout?"

SCOUT: "Yes Algie?"

ALGIE: "How do we get them down, Scout?"

SCOUT: "Well, we could store them in our tummies."

ALGIE: "But then we can't share them with everybear."

SCOUT: "That's true. Hhhmmm..." *Ponders.* "I know! I know!" *Excited.*

ALGIE: "What Scout?"

SCOUT: "Just drop the Easter Eggs onto the ground below!"

ALGIE: "Oh that's a great idea, Scout!"

SCOUT: "Look out everybear below! Easter Egg showers are expected!"

PADDY, DAISY-MAUD, JAGO, ORSON, ROSIE, BOGART, COUSIN PADDINGTON: *Squeal and run for shelter as Easter eggs are poured from the bucket by Algie.*

PADDY: "Hullo everyone and everybear! BENJAMIN: "Hullo Emmett and Edgar!"

EDGAR and EMMETT: "Hullo Benjamin!"

BENJAMIN: "Oh well done, you two! You have two wonderfully full Easter baskets!"

EMMETT: "Yes! We have lots and lots and lots of Easter Eggs to add to the picnic hamper."

EDGAR: "We will have plenty to share with our 'Cuddle Bear Friends' Funky and Nutmeg!"

BENJAMIN: "Oh indeed we will! Whilst you were fetching your baskets of eggs, I found a lovely big pink Easter Egg under an acanthus leaf just over there." *Points paw towards acanthus plant.* "So, I think we will have plenty for everybear to share!"

EMMETT: "Oh hoorah!" *Jumps up and down with joy.* "Funky will never have had such a wonderful Easter! When you think about it, with poor Funky living on the street until Peter spotted him and Mummy Marian rescued him and took him home, he probably had very sad Easters, really."

EDGAR: "Nutmeg too, Emmett. And that is why we must share our wonderful hoarde of Easter Eggs with them!"

BENJAMIN: "I'm sure there will be Easter Eggs for them at Mummy Marian's house too, but you are quite right, Emmett and Edgar: it is only right that we share our Easter Eggs with our very own 'Cuddle Bear Friends' Funky and Nutmeg!"

EMMETT: "They will be so happy!"

EDGAR: "And so surprised!"

BENJAMIN: "I just hope that we can carry this picnic hamper full of Easter Eggs to the magic portal!"

EDGAR: "I'm sure if we all pitch in to help, we can, Benjamin!"

EMMETT: "That's right, Benjamin! I'm going to go and collect a few extra just to make sure the hamper is full!"

NANUK: "Oh it is so lovely and warm here in the sun! I just love living here at Daddy's house where it is nice and warm." *Adds more bright foiled Easter Eggs to his bucket.* "Look Freddy! We have so many Easter Eggs. Therew will be plenty enough for us, and plenty spare to share with my niece Aurora at Mummy Marian's house!"

FREDDY: "Oh I know, Nanuk, and there will also be plenty! I want to collect some for my little brother, Little Freddy, my best friends Pedlar and Bernus and his brother Hakus, and for my nephew Caddie too!"

NANUK: "Then I had better keep collecting these little Easter Eggs.I want some for my friends Hylko Hyena, Benny Bever and Gina Giraf who live at Mummy Maria's house too!"

FREDDY: "Well, I also found a nice big green and pink Easter Egg too!"

SCOUT: "Pink! Did I hear you ay pink, Freddy?"

FREDDY: "Yes Scout. Why?"

SCOUT: "Just remember that all pink Easter Eggs belong to Rosie and to me, alright!" *Nods seriously.*

FREDDY: "Well, this Easter Egg is green with pink flowers, and I found it under the agapanthus leaves nearby, so I think I should get to keep it, Scout."

SCOUT: *Looks closely at big Easter Egg.* "Oh, that's more green than pink, Freddy, so Rosie and I wouldn't want that one. We only want all pink Easter Eggs, because they taste the very best of all!" *Gasps.* "Nanuk! I spy a pink Easter Egg atop the pile in your bucket!"

NANUK: "Oh! Sorry Scout." *Picks up pink Easter Egg with paw and hands it to Scout.*

SCOUT: "Thank you Nanuk!" *Puts pink Easter Egg into basket.* "Don't worry, I will share some of these with Aurora too!"

Once upon a time, not so very long ago, there was a bear called Nanuk. Nanuk is a Polar Bear. The Teddy Bear Orphanage in the Netherlands recently contacted my friend Mummy Marian who is well known for being a generous host for bears who need a home. They told her that Nanuk has been living at the Teddy Bear Orphanage for quite some time. They also told Mummy Marian that he's very unhappy. Sweet Nanuk was born with a rare disease: poor body temperature regulation. He\'s always cold! The Teddy Bear Orphanage were looking for someone who lives in a country where it never freezes. Mummy Marian immediately thought of me, as like her, I am well known for being a generous host and making my home available to bears who need a family. Mummy Marian felt that Australia (where I live) would be the most perfectly wonderful place for Nanuk to live: a warm country with me as his Daddy, and many bear friends to make a family for him. I considered Mummy Marian’s request, and I immediately said “yes”! I think Nanuk will be a very happy Polar Bear, living with me and all my bears. We don’t know the end of the story yet, because of course, Nanuk’s tale is only just beginning! However, I do think he will live happily ever after!

Freddy Fox is made by Merrythought in England. I bought him, of all places, from a men’s accessory shop in Melbourne’s Block Arcade, called Mr. Wares. Freddy Fox is made of English Mohair with felt paws and glass bead eyes. He has so much charm and charisma that already he is winning hearts with anyone whom he meets, and he is kind and sweet, which makes him an ideal member of our family.

The basket that Scout is using is a vintage 1950s thick paper examples which I acquired not long after Easter 2024. Rosie has one in the background too. The body of the basket is all one piece that is folded together and slipped through cuts at the side. The handle is a separate piece that fits through slits at either end. PADDY: *Reading.* "The wolf sniffed at Little Red Riding Hood's basket, and, after finding out just where the grandmother lived, he jumped into the bushes and disappeared." *Pauses. "Look Scout. See how pleased the wolf is looking!"

SCOUT: "What Paddy?"

PADDY: "Scout! I'm disappointed. I thought you wanted a story and yet you haven't been listening!"

SCOUT: "Oh I'm sorry Paddy, but I was distracted by the bunnies."

PADDY: "Bunnies? There are no rabbits in Little Red Riding Hood. What rabbits, Scout?"

SCOUT: "Those bunnies, Paddy!" *Points paw to three small rabbits carrying Easter Eggs.* "Look Paddy! The bunnies are carrying Easter eggs!"

PADDY: "Why so they are, Scout! Very well observed!" *Gasps.* "Do you know who they are, Scout?" *Trembles with excitement.*

SCOUT: "I think so Paddy." *Trembles with excitement.* "Are they Easter Bunnies?"

PADDY: "They are, Scout! That means it's Easter, and you know what that means, don't you?"

SCOUT: "I do, Paddy!" *Excited,* "It means an Easter Egg hunt!"

PADDY: "It does, Scout! Let's go fetch everybear else!"

SCOUT: "And fox and mouse and duck!"

PADDY: "Hullo everyone and everybear! Paddy has managed to share my thoughts most eloquently. A very happy Easter to you all!

My Paddington Bear came to live with me in London when I was two years old (many, many years ago). He was hand made by my Great Aunt and he has a chocolate coloured felt hat, the brim of which had to be pinned up by a safety pin to stop it getting in his eyes. The collar of his mackintosh is made of the same felt. He wears wellington boots made from the same red leather used to make the toggles on his mackintosh.

He has travelled with me across the world and he and I have had many adventures together over the years. He is a very precious member of my small family.

CORNELIA: "Moesje! Moesje my best friend! Look! I ahve found a pretty pale pink Easter Egg decorated with green flowers. I bet it is strawberry flavoured chocolate. I know you like strawberry too, so I'd like to share it with you. I also have some delicious pink Easter Eggs that Scout and Rosie haven't managed to grab. I'll share them with you too, my best friend! Happy Easter!"

Cornelia, I found in an antique and vintage market quite recently. She is a vintage edition Russ Bear from their Mohair Collection. She is made of deliberately mottled mohair to give her that vintage look. One of a limited edition of 10,000, she was designed by artist Carol Hosfstad and is completely handmade.

Bogart has travelled all the way from Georgia, via Alabama as a gift to me from a friend. He has lovely Southern manners and seems to be a fun and gentle soul with an inquisitive nature.

Travelling all the way from London, Cousin Paddington was caught in transit thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic, so it looks like he is stopping with us for a long while. That makes me happy, as the more I look into his happy, smiling face, the more attached I am becoming to him.

Orson, named after the little bear constellation, was made by the same friend who made Jago and Daisy-Maud. He comes ready dressed in 'trousers' made of German mohair accessorised with embroidered braces. His paws are ultra suede and his eyes are glass. He is described as being a little bit serious minded but very friendly. He's fine once he gets to know you.

Danny Boy, made by the same friend who made Jago, Daisy-Maud and Orson, has a touch of the 'Oirish' in him with his emerald green scarf. He has an open mouth as he likes to sing and comes with his own songbook, "Irish Airs for Teddy Bears". He has a wobbly head to give him animation when he's talking to you, and is made of English mohair, has paws of ultra suede and eyes of glass. Quite a happy-go-lucky little character....

Algie is made by the same friend who made Jago, Daisy-Maud, Orson and Danny Boy. He is is made of sparse English mohair, has paws of ultra suede and eyes of glass. A very adventurous little boy, he loves to climb and sit on top of gates, edges of tables and chairs. He adore climbing trees, and will cheekily sit there with crossed legs. He's very friendly and he loves adventures of any kind.

Bertie came to live with me on Christmas Day 2022. He was a gift from a very dear friend. He is vintage and is hand knitted with soft red dioxide wool and has chocolate brown felt pads on his paws. He has shiny black bead eyes and has his own very smart tartan bow. He tells me that he was living in an antique shop for quite a while, just looking for his forever home, which now he feels that he has. Bertie is very soft and loves cuddles, and whilst perhaps not as forthcoming as some of my other bears due to his shyness, he is very loving and caring and gives big little bear hugs and snuffly kisses beautifully.

Made by Merrythought in England, Emmett is a charming little bear, sweet and smiling, crafted from multi-tonal marl grey mohair and featuring golden velvet paws. He is accessorised with a classic tartan woollen scarf. He is number 23 or a limited worldwide edition of 200.

Handmade at Merrythought in England from warm-gold tousled mohair plush, Edgar is a cheerful companion who has terracotta pure cotton velvet paws, and wears a delightful floral cotton bow tie. He is number 2 of a limited worldwide edition of 200.

Benjamin is made by Merrythought in England too. Based on the famous original drawings by Peggy Fortnum of Michael Bond's famous bear, the Paddington - Classic Edition is British-made (of course) at Merrthought's historical factory and is truly timeless and designed to bring a lifetime of joy and companionship. Made in a special numbered edition, I am fortunate enough to have number 17.

An exceptionally charming and true to character recreation of Paddington, who is cherished around the world for his kind nature….and fondness of marmalade sandwiches! Entirely British-made at Merrythought's historical Ironbridge factory, this Paddington Bear has been designed to bring a lifetime of joy and companionship, and is the ultimate memento of the Paddington movie franchise. Created by Merrythought as a Special Edition, Paddington - the Movie Edition is individually numbered as part of a limited worldwide release. He is number 18.

Duckie I saw when I was at a Sunday market on a stall of homemade knitted and crocheted items. She caught my eye straight away with her happy, smiley face and bright colours. I think she finds life with my bears intriguing and perhaps a little confusing, however she is learning.

This beautiful faerie tale pantomime nursery tea set was made in England by the Shell China Company in the 1930s. It features cups, saucers and plates as well as a teapot, coffee pot, milk jugs, sugar bowls, platters, sandwich plate, a lidded soup tureen on its own dish and a gravy or cream jug. Each piece is gilt edged and decorated and feature different faerie tales including: "Cinderella", "Little Red Riding Hood", "Dick Whittington and his Cat", "Jack and the Beanstalk" and "Goldilocks and the Three Bears" amongst others. The set I acquired from England, and it is a sister set to a 1920s Shell China Company nursery rhyme tea set that I was given as a gift some years ago by a close friend who knows I collect nursery ware and children’s tea sets.

The baskets are vintage 1950s thick paper examples which I acquired not long after Easter 2024. The body of the basket is all one piece that is folded together and slipped through cuts at the side. The handle is a separate piece that fits through slits at either end. I love their cute printed characters!

PADDY: "Hullo Scout and Rosie!"

SCOUT and ROSIE: "Hullo Paddy!"

PADDY: "Are you finding many Easter Eggs?"

SCOUT: "Oh yes we are, Paddy, and we are filling our Easter baskets!"

ROSIE: "But only with pink Easter Eggs, Paddy!"

SCOUT: "Because pink Easter Eggs taste the best," *Nods emphatically.* "Don't they, Rosie?"

ROSIE: "Indeed they do, Scout!" *Nods emphatically too.*

SCOUT: "It looks like you have found an Easter Egg too, Paddy!"

ROSIE: "A big one too, Paddy!"

PADDY: "Indeed I have, Scout and Rosie! I am usually the last to find an Easter Egg, but it seems this year that I am one of the first! It is such a big egg: far too big for me, so I shall share it with mijn beste vriend Oleg. I know that he will enjoy that!"

SCOUT and ROSIE: "Congratulations, dear Paddy!" *Clap paws in delight.*

The baskets that Scout and Rosie are using are vintage 1950s thick paper examples which I acquired not long after Easter 2024. The body of the basket is all one piece that is folded together and slipped through cuts at the side. The handle is a separate piece that fits through slits at either end. I love their cute printed characters!

CLASSIC PADDINGTON: "Now, let's see... seven large Easter Eggs, three small baskets of Easter Eggs, a tin of Easter Eggs, a picnic hamper of Easter Eggs, a bucket of Easter Eggs... I think we are about done!"

MOVIE PADDINGTON: "Don't forget the mini luggy of Easter Eggs too, dear Classic Paddington, and I have managed to fit a few extra Easter Eggs into my suitcase too!"

CLASSIC PADDINGTON: "Capital, Movie Paddington! Capital!"

MOVIE PADDINGTON: "This should be enough to ward off our grumbly tummies for the next day of two."

CLASSIC PADDINGTON: "Well, I wouldn't go quite that far, Movie Paddington. Maybe until the end of Easter Sunday... perhaps."

MOVIE PADDINGTON: "Grumbly tummy Classic Paddington! Grumbly tummy!" *Rubs tummy vigorously.*

BOGART: "Ooooh!" *Gaps.*

COUSIN PADDINGTON: "Did you find anything in the pot of daisies, Bogart?"

BOGART: "Oh yes I did, Cousin Paddington! I found lots of little Easter eEggs!"

COUSIN PADDINGTON: "Oh well done Bogart! And you were worried that being a little bear you wouldn't find any Easter Eggs. Here, hand me the eggs you found and I'll put them in your Easter basket. Then I'll help you down and we'll keep looking."

BOGART: "Alright Cousin Paddington. When I get down, am going to share my eggs with my best friends Fuzzy and Danbo."

COUSIN PADDINGTON: "That is very generous of you, Bogart."

BOGART: "Well, there are far too many for me to eat!"

COUSIN PADDINGTON: "I found a nice big egg too. I will happily share mind with everybear!"

BOGART: "That is so lovely of you, Cousin Paddington! You are such a nice bear!"

PADDY: "Hullo everyone and everybear! Bogart has travelled all the way from Georgia, via Alabama as a gift to me from a friend. He has lovely Southern manners and seems to be a fun and gentle soul with an inquisitive nature.

Travelling all the way from London, Cousin Paddington was caught in transit thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic, so it looks like he is stopping with us for a long while. That makes me happy, as the more I look into his happy, smiling face, the more attached I am becoming to him.

The basket that Bogart is using is a vintage 1950s thick paper examples which I acquired not long after Easter 2024. The body of the basket is all one piece that is folded together and slipped through cuts at the side. The handle is a separate piece that fits through slits at either end. BERTIE: "Look what I found Paddy!"

PADDY: "Goodness! Half an Easter egg full of little speckles!"

BERTIE: "Is that what those are?"

PADDY: "Yes, they are droplets of chocolate which are then coated in sugared sprinkles."

BERTIE: "They are ever so pretty! Almost too pretty to eat!"

PADDY: "I'm sure you won't mind eating them once you try one, Bertie!" *Chuckles.*

BERTIE: "I did say, 'almost', dear Paddy! Grumbly tummy Paddy." *Rubs tummy vigorously*

PADDY: "Well these must be intended for you, dear Bertie. A special treat from the Easter Bunny!"

BERTIE: "Oh thank you Paddy, and thank you to the Easter Bunny!"

PADDY: "Hullo everyone and everybear!

ROSIE and SCOUT: "Hullo Duckie!"

DUCKIE: "Oh! Hullo Rosie and Scout!"

ROSIE: "What are you doing, Duckie?"

DUCKIE: "What does it look like, Rosie?" *Surprised.* "You really are rater dim sometimes. I thought you of all bears would know. I'm hatching an egg of course!"

ROSIE: "Hatch an egg, Duckie?" *Alarmed.*

DUCKIE: "Of course! I found this poor red egg overlooked by all your bears as you run hither and thither, and I thought it was perfect for hatching!"

SCOUT: "I don't think that egg will hatch though, Duckie."

DUCKIE: "Humph!" *Snorts through beak.* "Well that just shows you how little you know, Scout. I'll have you know that I came from an egg laid by my Mummy, and my Mummy came from an egg laid by Granny Duck!"

SCOUT: "Oh I knew that, Duckie!"

ROSIE: "I think what Scout was getting at, Duckie, is that what you are sitting on is a chocolate Easter Egg, not a real egg at all."

DUCKIE: "What?!?!"

SCOUT: "That's right, Duckie. It's just a hollow chocolate Easter Egg for eating, not for hatching."

DUCKIE: "Don't be such a naysayer Scout! I'm going to try and I'm sure I will succeed!" *Nods enthusiastically.* "Thank you Easter Bunny for my wonderful new egg! I shall hatch it beautifully!"

Duckie I saw when I was at a Sunday market on a stall of homemade knitted and crocheted items. She caught my eye straight away with her happy, smiley face and bright colours. I think she finds life with my bears intriguing and perhaps a little confusing, however she is learning.

Nanuk Longs for Warmer Weather by raaen99

Nanuk Longs for Warmer Weather

Hullo everyone and everybear! I would like to tell you the story of Nanuk. Once upon a time, not so very long ago, there was a bear called Nanuk. Nanuk is a Polar Bear. The Teddy Bear Orphanage in the Netherlands recently contacted my friend Mummy Marian (Marian Kloon (on and off)) who is well known for being a generous host for bears who need a home. They told her that Nanuk has been living at the Teddy Bear Orphanage for quite some time. They also told Mummy Marian that he\'s very unhappy.

The theme for "Looking Close on Friday" for the 21st of February is "winterwear". As you can see, Nanuk is sitting by the fire on a fur throw, trying to keep warm by sipping some hot tea, whilst it snows outside. Nanuk, who was hand crocheted for me as a gift by my friend Mummy Marian (Marian Kloon (on and off)), is wearing his own beautiful moss green and grey hooded cape, trimmed with grey and silver ribbon and topped with a pompom, accessorised with two silver jingle bells. I couldn’t think of anyone… or anybear better to fit the theme for this week! I hope that Nanuk and his story make you smile!

Cornelia and the Bear Who is Just as Pretty

DADDY: "Hullo Cornelia!"

CORNELIA: "Hullo Daddy, although..." *Grumbles.* "I'm not sure I am talking to you right now."

DADDY: "Goodness, why ever not, dear Cornelia?"

CORNELIA: "Well! You might have warned me, Daddy!" "Pouts.*

DADDY: "Warned you, Cornelia darling? Of what?"

CORNELIA: "That you were going to invite a bear as pretty as me to come and live with us!" *Disgruntled.*

DADDY: "But I haven't, Cornelia darling!"

CORNELIA: "Yes you have Daddy!"

DADDY: "No I haven't!"

CORNELIA: "Yes you have!" *Adamant.* "She's in here!" *Holds up hand mirror.* "Look! She is teasing me by moving her lips just as I am!"

DADDY: *Chuckles.*

CORNELIA: "This isn't funny, Daddy! Quite the contrary! This is no laughing matter!"

DADDY: "Oh I'm sorry to laugh, Cornelia darling! But I am only laughing because that isn't another bear."

CORNELIA: "Yes it is, Daddy!"

DADDY: "No it isn't, Cornelia. It's your reflection!"

CORNELIA: "My reflection?" *Takes up mirror again and looks at the glass.* "Oh! I did think there was something rather familiar about her, Daddy. Oh well!" *Sighs.* "That is a relief! In that case, as this is my reflection, you are forgiven, Daddy."

DADDY: "Oh... err... thank you, Cornelia darling."

CORNELIA: "And you may cuddle me."

DADDY: "Oh thank you, Cornelia darling!"

CORNELIA: "You are welcome, Daddy!"

Happy 95th Anniversary, Merrythought by raaen99

Happy 95th Anniversary, Merrythought

2025 is a very special year for Merrythought Bears. It is their 95th anniversary, which is a significant milestone when you think that this business has survived all the turbulence of the mid to late Twentieth Century and beyond.

As part of their celebrations, Merrythought have released their 95th Anniversary Commemorative Teddy Bear. Mine arrived today!

Marrying Sapphire (45th) and Golden (50th) anniversary years, the Merrythought 95th Anniversary Commemorative Teddy Bear is a most distinguished bear, who has been beautifully hand-crafted from two tones of the finest golden mohair, combined with pure cotton velvet. Merrythought’s stunning 95th anniversary colours subtly feature throughout the bear’s design, including the simplified logo embroidered upon his left paw. A special edition 95th anniversary foot label is stitched on his right paw, marking what is a significant milestone in Merrythought’s longstanding history. The Merrythought 95th Anniversary Commemorative Teddy Bear. is adorned with a luscious double satin bow, in the centre of which is a detailed twenty-four carat gold-plated pendant embellished with the iconic Merrythought wishbone, framed by sapphire crystals. The reverse is engraved with the Merrythought logo, and ’95 years, 1930-2025’

Each Merrythought 95th Anniversary Commemorative Teddy Bear. is individually numbered as part of a limited edition of 1930 pieces to mark the year of Merrythought's commencement. Mine is number 23.

The story of Merrythought began in 1930. William Gordon Holmes, owner of a spinning mill in Yorkshire called ‘Holmes & Laxton’, recognised the opportunity to make premium soft toys from the luxurious natural fibres they sourced. He found a beautiful brick foundry building in Ironbridge, Shropshire, home of the industrial revolution, and with the help of a team of skilled local seamstresses, Merrythought was born.

The first collection was designed by Florence Attwood, a remarkable pattern maker who overcame many challenges associated with being deaf and unable to speak, to create some of our most iconic designs. This included the original Merrythought and Magnet teddy bears, which still have a strong influence upon the designs they create today. With cheap imports increasingly affecting the traditional British toy sector in the 1970s, Merrythought focused on the growing teddy bear collectors market. Impressive collections of beautifully-designed limited edition bears were created and sold through British retailers, and also distributed across new export markets, including the United States and Japan. Even His Majesty King Charles III has a Merrythought hippo, gifted to him when he was still the Prince of Wales during a royal visit to Marks and Spencer’s flagship London store in 1982. Today the Merrythought teddy bear is still widely regarded as the ultimate childhood toy, treasured by children and adult collectors across the globe. The company’s timeless traditional characters continue to be hand-made in the original factory, alongside stunning limited edition bears that commemorative occasions such as the Olympic Games and Royal occasions.

Super-Padd, Peter, Scout and the Closed Door by raaen99

Super-Padd, Peter, Scout and the Closed Door

Super-Padd, who has recently taken up residence at Mummy Marian (Marian Kloon (on and off)\'s) house in the Netherlands wants to visit Cousin Paddington, Paddy, Daddy Jesse and all the bears in Australia. Unfortunately, he couldn\'t go through the magic portal that exists between Mummy Marian\'s House and Daddy Jesse\'s House as he is too big and too tubby. Peter asked for help from Fairy Mum, who has made Super-Padd a little...well...a little too little, but still big enough to visit Cousin Paddington via the magic portal. Cousin Paddington and Scout waited for the arrival of Super Padd and Peter, and when they arrived escorted them to the house where Daddy Jesse put on a wonderful afternoon tea for them all before they played hide-and-seek. However all good things come to an end, and it was time for Peter and Super-Padd to go home to Mummy Marian's. Part of Super-Padd's promise to Fairy Mum in exchange for her making him small was that he had to be back in Mummy Marian's garden within 24 hours before the spell was broken. Now Super-Padd and Peter are at the magical portal doorway.

PETER: "We are here Super-Padd. Will you please open the door because with all these home-baked biscuits in my hands from Daddy Jesse, I can't. My paws are full, and I'm afraid they'll fall. I don't want to give Mummy Marian broken biscuits!"

SUPER-PADD: "Pulls on the door.* "Hmpf...argh....I can't get the door open!"

PETER: "What? Oh, then I'll do it, Super-Padd." *Puts the biscuits down carefully*. "With those little paws of yours, you won't be able to open the door. It can be a bit stiff sometimes."

SUPER-PADD: "Thank you Peter."

PETER: "Pulls hard on the door.* "Darn...it's stuck
How can that be?" *Shocked.* "What should we do? In a little while the spell will be broken Super-Padd, and you will return to full size and be too big to get through the magical portal! The biscuits will go limp and stale, and the Christmas Bear won't come!" *Tears well in eyes.* "Oh we can't have that! We have to think... and quickly!" *Worried.*

SCOUT: "Peter! Peter mijn allerbeste vriend! Wait!"

PETER: "What? Scout! What is it, mijn beste vriend?"

SCOUT: "You forgot the shortbread biscuits for Mummy Marian and Jan!" *Stops.* "Peter! What's wrong? You're crying!" *Alarmed.*

PETER: "Oh Scout! The door to the magic portal is stuck! In a little while the spell cast by Fairy Mum over Super-Padd will be broken and he will return to full size and be too big to get through the magical portal!"

SCOUT: "Well, I'm sure Daddy wouldn't mind having Super-Padd live here, and I know Cousin Paddington would like it soooo much! And Daddy loves you and you know how happy your princes Rosie and I would be if you lived with us too!"

PETER: "No, you don't understand, Scout. There are ram.. rami... ramific... there are other things that will happen if Super-Padd and I can't get through the magic portral! The biscuits will go limp and stale, and the Christmas Bear wwon't come! And besides." *Starts to cry again.* "However much I would love to be here with you and mijn allerliefste Prinses Rosie forever, I would miss Oleg, even if he is grumpy, and Mummy Marian and Jan! And... and...a nd if the door is stuck, it means nobear can get through the portal to visit one another!"

SCOUT: "Oh no!" *Alarmed.*

PETER: "And time is running out! We don't have long!" *Concerned.*

SCOUT: "Oh no!" *Starts to cry.*

DADDY: "Now, now! What is all this! Peter, Scout, you are crying! What's wrong?"

SCOUT: "Oh Daddy! Daddy! The door to the magic portal is stuck! Super-Padd needs to get home before he becomes to big to fit through the magic portal again!"

DADDY: "Let me see if I can help you. Here Super-Padd. Let me try."

SUPER-PADD: *Stops trying to open the magic portal door.* "Oh thank you, Mr. Daddy!"

SCOUT and PETER: "Thank you, Daddy!"

DADDY: *Pulls on the door.* "Hmpf.... hmpf... hhhmmm... it is rather stuck!"

SUPER-PADD, SCOUT and PETER: "Oh please try harder, Daddy!"

DADDY: *Pulls on the door.* "Hmpf.... hmpf..." *Feels it moving.* "Oh, it's opening!"

The magic portal door finally gives way and opens, revealing Mummy Marian's garden.

SUPER-PADD, SCOUT and PETER: "Oh thank you, Daddy!"

DADDY: "There you are! Off you go now." *Smiles.* "Oh Peter! Don't forget the shortbread biscuits too!" *Gives Peter some home made shortbread biscuits for Mummy Marian and Jan.*

PETER: "Oh thank you, Daddy!" *Accepts biscuits.* "Goddbye and thank you again, Daddy!"

DADDY: "Goodbye Peter. Goodbye Super-Padd! Come back and play again soon!"

SUPER-PADD: "Thank you Mr. Daddy! Bye-bye!" *Waves as he walks through the portal door just in time before he becomes big again.*

PETER: "Goodbye mijn beste vriend Scout! See you soon! Next time, you can come and play with me at Mummy Marian's house!"

SCOUT: "Yes! I will come and play soon! Ik hou zoooooo veel van jou! Berenkusjes van Scout, je allerbeste vriend!" *Waves as Peter walks through the portal into Mummy Marian's garden.*

My bears Paddy and Scout have made very good friends with two bears in Holland called Peter and Oleg (www.flickr.com/photos/40262251@N03/galleries/721577154558...) and their Mummy Marian Kloon (on and off). Peter and Scout are very similar and have become best friends. Peter also loves Rosie and she loves him, so they have become prince and princess to one another. Super-Padd (www.flickr.com/photos/66094586@N06/albums/72177720322005215/) is distantly related to Cousin Paddington. He has taken up residence at Mummy Marian\'s house, and can now take advantage of the magic portal between Mummy Marian\'s house and mine! You can see Super-Padd flying through the sky here: and being reduced in size here: www.flickr.com/photos/66094586@N06/54176124571/in/album-7... or in the first comment below.

Thank you very much to Marian Kloon (on and off) for the use of her photo of Peter and Super-Padd at the magic portral door to help make my photo montage, and for her words at the beginning of the story.

COUSIN PADDINGTON, SUPER PADD, SCOUT and PETER: *Hurry across the lawn to Daddy Jesse's house.*

DADDY: "Oh hullo little Peter!"

PETER: "Hullo Mr. Daddy." *Shy.*

DADDY: *Turns to Super-Padd.* "And you must be Super-Padd, Cousin Paddington's relation."

SUPER-PADD: "How do you do, Mr. Daddy!"

DADDY: "Goodness! I was expecting a slight bigger bear than you are, so I have probably prepared too much food."

SUPER-PADD: "There is no such thing, Mr. Daddy! And I'm usually more Cousin Paddington's size, but... well it's a long story."

DADDY: "Well you must come and tell me all about it over a cup of tea, a mince pie and some shortbread biscuits."

PETER: "Mince pies!"

SUPER-PADD: "Shortbread biscuits!"

DADDY: "Yes, I have been baking today in readiness for Christmas, so your arrival is perfect."

ROSIE: "Oh mijn handsome prins!" *Gasps and claps paws.* "There you are!"

PETER: "Oh! Mijn allerliefste Prinses Rosie! You are soooo beautiful! My heart goes flippity-flop! I have missed you soooo much!"

ROSIE: "Oh me too, mijn prins!" *Blushes red beneath pink woollen plush.* "I have been saving up my soft snuffly kisses for you!"

PETER: "I have been saving my soft snuffly kisses for you too, mijn allerliefste Prinses Rosie!" *Blushes pink beneath plush fur.*

DADDY: "Now come along everybear! Because the weather is so beautiful and warm today, I have set up tea for you all on the back terrace. Scout insisted on using his special Little Red Riding Hood tea set in your honour."

PETER: "Oh thank you, mijn allerbeste vriend! I am so honoured!"

SCOUT: "Oh, you are welcome mijn allerbeste vriend! Ik hou zoooooo veel van jou!"

ROSIE: "Ik hou zoooooo veel van jou too, mijn handsome prins Peter!"

DADDY: "Now eat your fill, everybear and then you can all go and play in the sunshine together before Peter and Super-Padd go home for dinner."

COUSIN PADDINGTON, SUPER-PADD, ROSIE, SCOUT and PETER: "Thank you Daddy! Grumbly tummies Daddy! Grumbly tummies!" *Rub tummies vigorously.*

Scout's Christmas present from Father Christmas and the Christmas Bear in 2022 was a beautiful 1930s Little Red Riding Hood tea set for six. It was made by an unknown maker in Stoke-on-Trent. Not all the set is being used today. It features beautiful, brightly coloured transfers of different parts of the faerie tale.

Travelling all the way from London, Cousin Paddington was caught in transit thanks to the Coronavirus pandemic, so it looks like he is stopping with us for a long while. That makes me happy, as the more I look into his happy, smiling face, the more attached I am becoming to him.

Thank you very much to Marian Kloon (on and off) for the use of her photo of Peter and Super-Padd to help make my photo montage.

Peter and Super Padd Arrive!

Cousin Paddington and Scout await the arrival of Super Padd and Peter.

COUSIN PADDINGTON: "Scout. I\'m worried!" *Puts paw to mouth.* "Nothing is happening. Where is Super Padd?"

SCOUT: "Don\'t worry, dear Cousin Paddington. You must be patient. You can\'t hurry magic. Soon there will be fairy Mum\'s magical dust in the air, and then Super Padd and mijn beste vriend Peter will be here." *Trembles with excitement.*

Magic stardust begins to appear in the air.

COUSIN PADDINGTON: "What\'s happening, Scout?"

SCOUT: "Hoorah! Hoorah!" *Claps paws with delight.* "Fair Mum\'s magic is working! Here come Super Padd and mijn beste vriend!" *Jumps for joy.*

More stardust appears before Peter and Super Padd emerge through the magic portal.

PETER: "We are here! Hullo! Hullo mijn allerbeste vriend Scout!" *Cuddles Scout.* "Hullo dear Cousin Paddington!" *Cuddles Cousin Paddington.*

SUPER PADD: "Oh my goodness!"

PETER: "Wasn\'t that fun, Super-Padd?"

SUPER-PADD: "Well, it certainly is different to flying."

COUSIN PADDINGTON: "Hullo Super-Padd! My goodness! You are so small!"

SUPER-PADD: "I know. Fairy Mum\'s magic worked a little too well."

COUSIN PADDINGTON: "It doesn\'t matter. At least it made you small enough to travel through the magical portal. Now we can spend time together, and you can meet the other bears. Won\'t that be fun?"

SUPER_PADD: "Oh yes, Cousin Paddington! I am so pleased to be here!" *Cuddles Cousin Paddington.*

PETER: "I am soooo happy to be here, mijn beste vriend! What shall we do? Play hide-and-seek? Play knights and damsels? I see you are wearing your beautiful tutu, mijn allerbeste vriend. maybe I could borrow one of your tutus and we can dance together!"

SCOUT: "Oh mijn beste vriend Peter, we can do all that, and more! Your prinses Rosie is waiting for you too! She says she has many soft snuffly kisses for you!" *Giggles.*

PETER: "Oh! Mijn allerliefste Prinses Rosie! My heart goes flippity-flop! I can\'t wait to see her!"

COUSIN PADDINGTON: "I hope you are hungry, dear Super-Padd, and that Fairy Mum\'s magic hasn\'t shrunken your appetite."

SUPER-PADD: "Oh no, Cousin Paddington! I have a very grumbly tummy! Grumbly tummy Cousin Paddington! Grumbly tummy!" *Rubs tummy vigorously.*

PETER: "I have a grumbly tummy too, Cousin Paddington! Grumbly tummy Cousin Paddington! Grumbly tummy!" *Rubs tummy vigorously.*

SCOUT: "I have a grumbly tummy, three, Cousin Paddington! Grumbly tummy Cousin Paddington! Grumbly tummy!" *Rubs tummy vigorously.*

COUSIN PADDINGTON: "Good! Good! As soon as I heard you were coming, Super-Padd and Peter, I had Daddy put on the kettle and he has made a beautiful afternoon tea, in honour of your visit! Come along."

SCOUT: "Yes! Come along mijn allerbeste vriend! Prinses Rosie and afternoon tea is waiting!"

Would You Like Some Tea, Paddington?

DADDY: “Would you like some tea, Paddington?”

PADDINGTON: “Yes please, Daddy!”

DADDY: “Milk?”

PADDINGTON: “Yes please, Daddy! Just a slosh.”

DADDY: “One lump or two?”

PADDINGTON: “Two please, Daddy!”

DADDY: “Very good, Paddington darling.”

PADDINGTON: “And a sticky bun, please Daddy!”

DADDY: “Alright Paddington.”

PADDINGTON: “And some macarons, if you can manage it Daddy!”

DADDY: “Well I…”

PADDINGTON: “And a marmalade sandwich or twenty, please Daddy!”

DADDY: “Twenty, Paddington darling?”

PADDINGTON: “I have a grumbly tummy, Daddy!” *Rubs tummy vigorously.*

The theme for "Smile on Saturday" for the 30th of November is "coffee or tea". Being British and a traditionalist, I prefer tea to coffee, and I am not the only one in my household who is partial to a cup of tea, or two, or twenty. My Paddington Bear also enjoys a cup of tea for elevenses on any given day of the week. I hope you like my choice for this week’s theme, and that it makes you smile!

Beautifully hand made by Merrythought in their historic Ironbridge factory, and based on the famous original drawings by Peggy Fortnum of Michael Bond's famous bear, the Paddington - Classic Edition is British-made (of course) and is truly timeless and designed to bring a lifetime of joy and companionship. Paddington combines the finest natural materials with four generations of the very best British teddy bear making expertise. His detailed design and expressive features give him a personality that you cannot help but fall in love with, and he will become a loyal lifelong companion - always by your side during the ups and downs of life, and a friend to make memories with! Made from woven mohair plush and soft cotton velvet, this Paddington is dressed in a pure red woollen felt hat and blue duffle coat with wooden toggle detailing. He is brought to life by a neatly hand-stitched nose and warm smile.

Made in a special numbered edition, I am fortunate enough to have number 17.

"Please look after this bear. Thank you."

The teacup I hold is one from a tea set for six complete with six trios, a milk jug sugar bowl and a cake plate. It looks remarkably contemporary in shape and style, yet it is actually from 1911. Produced by British pottery maker, Royal Doulton, this cup is made of translucent china so fine that you can see your hand’s shadow through it when held to the light. It bears a stylised Art Nouveau lily design painted by the most famous of Doulton’s freelance decorators, Robert Allen. To cope with their enormous output, Doulton used both in-house and freelance designers and painters, and in some cases these decorators also added pattern numbers to the wares. The best known is Robert Allen who added an ‘Ra’ number to wares decorated for Doulton in his design studio.
