These #coquifrog s in Hawaii make an incredibly satisfying and relaxing double chirp call which is how they got their common name. The first chirp is to warn other males to stay away while the second is to call females. I often found that when I was near or calling to them, they would only reply with the first chirp. Amongst the sounds of crickets and drizzling rain, they really remind you that youre surrounded by jungle. They only come out at night or on cooler rainy days. Somehow these seemed harder for me to photograph than most snakes ever have, but this is partly because my macro becomes nearly impossible to use in low light for a subject the size of a coin. Quite a large noise for such a small animal, it can be downright loud. I called to and located two different individuals #insitu and then followed them as best i could for a few moments. #eleutherodactylus #eleutherodactyluscoqui #commoncoqui #coqui #hawaii #bigisland #LoveHateLens #bigislandherps
