33029

In sadly dull July evening light one man and his dog observe the departure of 1Z83 The Weymouth Seaside Express from Frome station. Organised by RTC the excursion was pulled by 5029 Nunney Castle with WCR's 33029 along for company.

Shorn earlier in the month of the 'Glen Loy' nameplates worn since 2006, the Crompton is presented in reasonable condition (as reasonable as WCR's chosen maroon livery will allow) although a rusty stain on the roof originating near the radiator fan and all down the side of the loco at this end slightly spoil things.

153370

FGW 'Super Sprinter' unit 153370 and classmate 368 get underway from Frome railway station with the Saturday 10.41 Gloucester to Weymouth service.

Although the structure and immediate environs appear pretty dilapidated, much-needed restoration work had recently began on the Grade II listed building. Frome station was opened in 1850 and is one of only a few train shed (covered roof) stations still in operation in Great Britain.

Note the new section of rail (courtesy of Tata steell) waiting to be laid overnight and the following day replacing the bullhead rail which has been in situ for many years.

GWR 's work-stained 150247 pauses under the roof at Frome station whilst working 2O80 14.41 Great Malvern to Weymouth "Heart of Wessex" service - 28/06/2019. As I never get tired of mentioning, Frome station was opened in 1850 and is one of the oldest railway stations still in operation in Britain. The unusual station structure consists of a 36.5 m (120 ft) by 14.6 m (48 ft) timber train shed. It was built in the style of Brunel by J.R. Hannaford. It is now a Grade II listed building.

33032

My third (and final, honest) view of 33032 forlornly sat in sidings at Frome North yard (also known as Frome West Stone Terminal) the day after it's collision with 47202 just a a few yards behind where I am standing to take the picture. 47202 was working 6B03, 07:08 Westbury Yard – Whatley Quarry empty stone train when at Frome North Junction it passed the junction protecting signal at danger and collided head on with 33032 working 2B77, Yeovil Pen Mill – Cardiff passenger working. The single line into Frome Station curves away to the left and can be glimpsed just to the left of the two chimneys, the route to Whatley quarry is away to the right and behind me. The stone terminal was sadly not operational for that long, the aggregates being brought in by road(!) from Tarmac's Halecombe quarry near Nunney and moved by rail to (I think) mainly Hothfield in Kent - 25/03/87

73951 Malcolm Brinded cruises through Frome Station working as 10.08 Bristol Tm Plat 2 Motorail to Weymouth Jn. As the weather outside was rubbish I figured the best bet was to get an "indoors" shot - 03/05/22. Regular viewers will know that I don't need much excuse to visit Frome's wonderful railway station - 03/05/22

Representing the IOW Bus Museum at the Running Day was this lovely 1962 Lodekka. I had the pleasure of being conductor on the vehicle during the day whilst it was expertly driven by Nigel Harris. (SN2730)
