Ottawa House, built c1775 on the shores of the Minas Basin near what is now Parrsboro, was acquired by Sir. Charles Tupper who was a premier of Nova Scotia and Canada's 6th Prime Minister in 1896, and named Ottawa House because of the government notables that were often entertained there. It is now a museum.
