I dislike the building. I photographed it for the purpose of casting negative judgment upon the people of 1965, the year it was built.

The "Apartments & Townhomes of Woodmar" had a spruce upon its grounds. by Tim Kiser

The "Apartments & Townhomes of Woodmar" had a spruce upon its grounds.

On this day a Silverado from circa 2020 was posed nearby, in a backed-in position.

This all looks pretty comfortable from out here, in its brick veneer and replacement siding, but the complex was built in 1959, and I have observed that apartment buildings from that time period are commonly at a difficult age in the U.S., vis-à-vis deferred maintenance.

But I don't have any experience with this complex. Maybe it's an exception to the usual stories we find at the intersection of landlord greed and Boomer/Xer amorality, of money hoarders endlessly finding ways to enrich themselves by actively worsening the conditions of others.

In Lansing Charter Township, Michigan, on October 29th, 2022, was a portion of the Woodmar Apartments (formally "The Beneicke Group Presents Apartments & Townhomes of Woodmar," per its sign; built in 1959, according to Lansing Township records at bsaonline.com) on the north side of Shoppers Alley Street, east of North Fairview Avenue, in the Groesbeck neighborhood.

1958 ranch-style lifestyle.

Whether the word "ranch" is being applied to a livestock grazing operation, a salad dressing, a brothel, or a one-story house, it reminds us every time: U.S. anglophones are driven to find the one word that means everything, the perfect homonym, in aversion to tyrannies of one-concept-per-word.

No more City of Lansing, you're in the township now. by Tim Kiser

No more City of Lansing, you're in the township now.

The choice to say "ENTERING" instead of "WELCOME TO" was intended to be subtly hostile to nonresidents of the township.

Charter townships are parasitic jurisdictions with special protections against annexation by neighboring cities, granted by the Michigan state government decades ago. The scene beyond the sign is a good example of a typical landscape in Lansing Charter Township, which consists of six non-contiguous areas that economically strangle the City of Lansing from multiple directions.

This was a 21c view upon a comfortable 20c residential streetscape, in "Groesbeck," a desirable neighborhood in Lansing Township, Michigan.

A desirable thing about this part of Lansing Township is that the streets are not heavily lined with electrical utility infrastructure, the way they are in nearby areas of the city of Lansing.

See how the street trees don't need to be aggressively pruned to accommodate rights of way of power lines: Fancy!

Good tree for a foggy morning of October 29th.

In all my walks and drives, I had never seen this tree looking so fine.

Last Days for the 200 Block

A row of doomed houses on S. Howard St. (Actually it's the end of the 100 and 200 block, but that's less punchy. All the rest of the 100 block was demolished some years ago.)
