Me with all my Gear! by Freaktography

Me with all my Gear!

I've had this idea for a while, to lay out all of my photo and video gear and pose with it, but I have never had a spot where I could do it properly.

The Art Gallery of Burlington has a great photo studio and gear available for members of the Latow Photographers Guild which I recently joined.

Yesterday, after spending a few hours shooting portraits for my wife and her friend, I used the rest of the time to set this photo up.

Not in the photo is my drone, which I used to take the photo, and my audio gear which I simpy forgot to lay out!

So, now that I did this - what should I do next?

Pelican 1614 Padded Dividers by fensterbme

Pelican 1614 Padded Dividers

Old Photo: This is an older photo, to see a newer photo of my equipment and details, click here.

The inside padded dividers of the Pelican 1614 hardshell case. For all you gear perverts...

Originally I thought I'd perfer the pick-n-pluck foam 1610 model, but this stores much more equipment.

This is the rig I taking with me to shoot a wedding this weekend. I'm borrowing another 20D, 70-200mm f/2.8L IS and 24-70mm f/2.8L lenses for my wife Joleen to use. The rest is my junk... I'm planning on ordering a 5D the 16-35mm f/2.8 MkII and 15mm fisheye in the next month or two.

Setup for a Weekend of Wedding Snapping

UPDATE: This is an old photo... Click Here to see what I am currently using.

For you gear perverts....

The inside of the Pelican 1614 hard case... These things are amazing and will take a beating (warrantied for life unconditionally) they are also water tight. I also have a photo of the outside of the case which has rollers and a handle to make moving it easy.

This Photo of the close up of the divider portion lists what all is in the case. This Photo of the top lid organizer lists all of the odds and ends in the case.

This Might Be Popular: For some reason I have this feeling that this photo might get a lot of views... as the two easiest ways to get a lot of views is to show either beautiful woman or camera gear. I guess Flickr is full of perverted camera gear lovers, ha!.

Lighting: This photo was taken with my Canon SD800 IS point and shoot camera. Lighting provided by a tungsten work lamp with a 10" reflector placed about 4 feed directly above the top of the Pelican camera bag.

Pelican 1614

I decided that schlepping around a few camera bags and digging through them trying to find the one piece of gear I can't find wasn't too professional like... I also wanted something that was a *bit* more sturdy.

This case is awesome and can hold a lot of equipment... if it held anymore it would be to heavy to move around.

It's a Pelican 1614 which is a 1600 series case, with the roller wheels and the padded dividers (vs. the pick -n- pluck foam).

I also have a Pelican 1514 that I got but it was too small. I'm not trying to figure out if I should keep it or sell it.

Great for organizing the little stuff that would otherwise just not really have a home.

Holga Mod by judyboy

Holga Mod

Well success, made the mod discussed at the Holga group at this link. We'll see how long it holds tonight but it feels pretty solid (can you say that for a Holga?)

I was off by 2mm so I cut some steel sheet used double sided tape to put on top of the shutter release... Voila!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
What you need:
Holga 120N
wire nut
cable release
wire cutters
Seal All glue (or contact cement)
patience
writing implement (I used a white crayon)

1) Find a wire nut (size up to you)

2) Use a knife or anything to flatten one side of the wire nut down for increase surface area for bonding to the Holga

3) With wire cutters (or something that cuts) snip off enough of the tip of the wire nut so that the cable release pin slides through without any stiction.

4) Screw the cable release in to ensure fit.

5) Hold in place the wire nut with protruding cable release against the Holga above the shutter release.

6) Depress the trigger to extend the cable release pin to activate the shutter release... MARK the location of the wire nut with your crayon.

7) Dispense your Seal All where you marked the wire nut... be liberal =)

8) Remove the cable release from the wire nut.

9) Press wire nut onto the dispensed glue on the Holga.

10) For extra secureness I gobbed some Seal All on top of the wire nut to ensure the entire thing is encapsulated.

11) Let it dry overnight

12) (Next Day) Make sure the glue has cured and hard as a rock. Screw the cable release and depress to make sure it triggers the shutter.

13) If it's too short then you can take anything that will give you enough height (metal sheet, busted cd, whatever and cut to size) and attach with double sided tape.

MAKE SURE IT'S on Bulb Mode if you are doing Long Exposures =)

Good luck and Happy Holga'ing.

The Full Moon is approaching, is your gear ready?

January boasts the Full Wolf Moon so get out there and howl at the moon.

Full Wolf Moon - January Amid the cold and deep snows of midwinter, the wolf packs howled hungrily outside Indian villages. Thus, the name for January's full Moon. Sometimes it was also referred to as the Old Moon, or the Moon After Yule. Some called it the Full Snow Moon, but most tribes applied that name to the next Moon.
