Ger Plaza de San Roque dyma Ffynnon Goffa Firgas, a godwyd i ddathlu sefydlu'r dref 500 mlynedd yn ôl.

Hyd nes i'r Sbaenwyr eu goresgyn, rhwng 1402 a 1496, ’roedd gan yr gan yr Ynysoedd Dedwydd boblogaeth frodorol. Ymddengys fod Gran Canaria wedi ei rhannu rhwng dau guanartemato: Telde a Gáldar, gyda guanarteme yn rheoli dros y naill a'r llall. (Guanarteme yw'r teitl a roddid i frenhinoedd brodorol Gran Canaria cyn y goresgyniad.)

Mae'r iaith frodorol, Guanche, yn iaith Ferberaidd farw ond a ddaliai i gael ei siarad tan yr 17eg ganrif, neu yn ddiweddarach. Diflannodd wrth i'r brodorion gael eu cymhathu yn y gymdeithas Sbaenaidd newydd. Gwyddys amdani drwy eiriau a bfrawddegau a gofnodwyd gan ddaearyddwyr cynnar a hefyd drwy enwau lleoedd. Mae ychydig eiriau Guanche yn dal yn Sbaeneg Gran Canaria,

The memorial Fountain near the Plaza de San Roque, Firgas. It commemorates the founding of Firgas 500 years ago.

Until the Spanish colonisation, between 1402 and 1496, the Canaries were populated by an indigenous population. Gran Canaria appears to have been divided into two guanartematos: Telde and Gáldar, each governed by a Guanarteme. (Guanarteme was the title given to the heads or aboriginal kings in the island of Gran Canaria before the conquest.)

The native Guanche language of the Canary Islands is an extinct Berber language that was spoken until the 17th century, or possibly later. It died out as the natives were assimilated into the new Spanish culture. The Guanche language is known today through sentences and individual words that were recorded by early geographers, as well as through several place-names and Guanche words that have been retained in the Canary Islanders' Spanish.
