The dominant building in this picture is New Hey Hall Mill a reminant from the textile boom in the 1800s. This one was built by the Hardman Brothers in 1866 and is relatively small compared to others of the period it also has a square chimney with oversailors designed to stop smoke creeping down the side of the chimney. The heavey sky really adds to the atmosphere as 7076 and 832 Hymek and Warship double headed ease out of Rawtenstall on the East Lancs railway with the 1710 to Bury.
The Blackburn Bus Company 293 (YJ68 FVX) was photographed at Rawtenstall bus station on 4 February 2025 when it was operating Rosso route 464 from Rochdale to Accrington. This bus was one of sixteen new Optare Versa V1170s based at Blackburn for the 464 that entered service from 28 October 2018. Fourteen of the Versas were painted lilac and purple with 464 route branding while 293 was one of a pair in black and grey Pride of the North livery. In early 2019 it was temporarily moved to Burnley to help out on the newly launched Irwell Line routes pending delivery of refurbished and branded buses. In 2020 it was transferred to Yorkshire Coastliner for the new Flyer operation at Idle depot when it was given Transdev Go branding and spent time with Team Pennine and the Harrogate Bus Company before returning to Blackburn in November 2024.
