Many of its species migrate to western or southern Europe for winter, but on our island we have many throughout the year.

Many Eurasian rock pipits (Anthus petrosus) migrate to western or southern Europe for winter, but on our island we have many throughout the year.

This is one of 12-20 individuals that we have had on a small stretch of rocks between the beaches here during winter.

I don't know if some of them are the same that breed here, or if all of them have migrated from even further north.

The year's first model by Ranveig Marie Photography

2025 started with the same weather as I remember on the first day of 2024 - pretty nice with beautiful big waves on our beach.

Last year I photographed a little common guillemot (lomvi in Norwegian) in the big waves as my first model of the year.

Today it was harder to photograph the ducks and gulls in the waves, so I stuck to the about ten rock pipits (Anthus petrosus) around me, with the waves in the background.

The New Year's Bird Count have resulted in closer to 30 different bird species in our neighbourhood today. My most interesting ones were two red-throated loons (smålom).
