The 290 was the second Staines route I did e2e last Saturday. Starts off with some quieter open residential areas before serving Sunbury Cross and then turning onto the A316 for the fastest section of the route.
Got held twice for service evening-out bollocks but we got some good speed in the Hanworth area and got rid of Hampton Sainsbury's promptly despite having to make a 3-point turn where you loop around the tiny roundabout it has.
From then on, it's standard affair roads to the terminus which is a back road next to the station.
YX18KVO (DLE30225) is at Staines Police Station bound for Twickenham via Ashford and Hanworth.
Last time I spotted a Citaro was on the 413 where these shorter Citaro Ks used to work under Quality Line RATP. A refurbishment and an ownership change later and it's working one of many Hounslow routes down to one of the furthest areas you can go with a TfL bus.
They're very nice to ride; loads of torque, comfortable and the route itself has some really nice sections. Some roads with sharper bends and fast areas south of Feltham makes you appreciate how slowly central routes really are. Kingston Road is slightly tighter but it's still a good ride before you get into the final town centre.
BV66GYC (MCM30088) is at West Middlesex Hospital starting a run to Staines via Hounslow and Ashford.
London & Country Leyland National EPD 543V SNB543 displaying route 436 to Staines. Seen at London Bus Museum Spring Gathering, Brooklands Museum, Weybridge, Surrey 13th April 2025.
I wonder if the 436 route has been changed – I can't see this getting over the Scotland Bridge without grounding, or even under the railway bridge just before it. This is from before my time in the area.
